There are a variety of golf clubs nearby. The locality offers a hugely varied range of walks, through woodland, along the coast or nearby on Dartmoor. Dartmoor has so much to offer from its heather-clad tors to dramatic landscapes, Dartmoor ponies, to quaint villages offering Devon cream teas. For a family day out take a trip to Crealy, or spend a day in Exeter, visit the magnificent cathedral, shops, take a look around the quay where there are little caves turned into shops, or walk the canal path and find the hidden pubs only reached by foot. Torquay offers boat trips from the harbour over to Brixham, or visit Living Coasts where penguins wander freely. Further afield visit the Eden Project or Plymouth to take in the Barbican and the Hoe, or visit the huge aquarium, another great day out. Agatha Christie’s house at Greenway is a must for fans of crime novels. There are many National Trust properties all close to Little Dunley, also visit Dart Valley Steam Train, or Buckfastleigh and see the otters. There are many sandy beaches nearby, or spend a day at Lyme Regis fossil hunting. The Jurassic Coast is spectacular and it is well worth taking a walk on the coastal path. Shop 1 mile.

Very good, really relaxing , shame about the water levels in the lake and obvious weed problem, but still caught plenty of fish, frying pan required. Swimming pool and Sauna really nice shower floor a bit dirty, we washed it down, probably people not observing the outside footwear rule. Excellant food and service at thr Cromwell Arms in Bovey. We will definatly come to this part of Devon again and without doubt consider little Dunley Cottages again. Thanks for a great Holiday

We all loved the pool, washing and drying facilities were great. The games room could do with a bit of attention, no balls in the pool table. Cottage itself was lovely, took some getting used to being upside down. Would recommend a different shoe rack, as a few of us caught our toes on the corners. Overall a lovely cottage in a good location & would stay again, maybe due for a little bit of tlc in places.

We visited this site in 2010 and the fact that we returned is a good indication of how highly we thought of Vine Lodge. The accommodation is spacious and clean it is well equipped although a little short on cutlery and crockery so you find yourself having to wash between courses even for a simple meal like a BBQ. There is a nice games room with table tennis, pool and darts. The swimming pool is clean and well kept if a little chilly. However, we felt as though attention was lacking to some basics that you shouldn't have to give a second thought to in holiday accommodation. For example, we had four blown bulbs and no spares to replace them with. The lighting is quite poor anyway (in the double bedroom you'd be advised to switch the lights on early so they are warmed up when you need them!) so you really don't want missing lights. The door handle in the bathroom is on the point of falling off and the lock in the shower room falls off regularly. The toilet in the shower room was almost impossible to flush and the shower tray took about half an hour to drain so showering for the whole family was quite time consuming because you'd have to wait for the tray to drain before the next person could go in. Several light switches were loose. Only one of four lights along the path to the pool was functioning and whilst we were there for most of the week there was no toilet paper in the pool toilet. Internet connectivity is poor. Even basic pages struggled to load at times. They want to charge you £20 per week for a service that is little better than dial up. Fair enough, it is done on an honesty basis but for less than £20 a week I could have unlimited fibre optic broadband and telephone as well. The pool table is showing signs of age and the darts were in a right old state. There were lots of darts with no flights. We managed to find some flights on the floor but they often came out. It is as if some visitors don't take care of the equipment so the owners think they don't need to bother fixing it. Of themselves, in isolation, none of these are a big deal but when they all come together you do wonder whether the bare minimum is being done to allow this accommodation to be rented. It's not cheap so you don't expect this type of disappointment on holiday. It's a shame really because with just a tiny bit more attention to the small details, this would be an ideal accommodation. There is plenty to do in the local area although driving anywhere takes longer than you'd expect because of the volume of traffic and the narrow roads. All in all, this accommodation has the potential to be really impressive like it was for us in 2010 but more attention is needed to the basics. Overall score reflects on the one hand what is fundamentally very nice accommodation but on the other hand the lack of attention to the basics we experienced.

The reason I have not given 9/10 is that the games room was so hot (no opening windows) it was impossible to stay in there (it was a hot week) so with 2 teenagers to entertain this was disappointing. Also we chose this cottage as it had a fishing lake but it needs some TLC as the water levels were low and a lot of weed. Lovely pool and tennis court and cottage was very well equipped

First stay in a cottage, so this was a new experience to us. Cottage is located down a private lane which leads to a gated area with four other similar cottages. The security of the place allowed the kids to be allowed freedom and we sometimes didn't even lock the front door. The accommodation is an upside down place, with one spacious double size bedroom, 1 twin bed bedroom, 1 bunk-bed bedroom and two toilets downstairs and large spacious kitchen dinner upstairs. The accommodation shares a lovely swimming pool which as a hit with the kids and communal games room. The grounds also have a tennis court and lake with fishing.

This is an "upsidedown" lodge - kitchen/lounge upstairs, and bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs. This visit (our second) my husband and I found it very tiring climbing up and down stairs whenever we needed the bathroom or to get something from our room. That said, the games room was great. Early morning swim in decent sized pool, games of pool with grandchildren, and the odd game of table tennis were ideal. Only gripes were that there was no heating when we arrived and lodge had obviously been empty for some time. However, this was remedied fairly quickly. And there seemed to be a dearth of lighting - no spare bulbs were included. For a "fit" family of six there would be no problem. If decided to stay at this venue again would go for standard living downstairs, bedrooms upstairs cottage. Perhaps a warning on description of this property re the stairs and mobility would be good. We did enjoy our stay.
