Great cottage with amazing views. It was a little too quiet and would have been handy to have a corner shop or pub in the village.

Lilac cottage was warm and welcoming on arrival and throughout our stay. Stunning views across Wensleydale, Hawes is an enjoyable walk across the fields or 5mins by car. The cottage had all we needed in the way of facilities,it was really good to come back from a very cold walk and get the fire going, soon warmed up the living room. There are good walks directly from the door, recommend up over Staggs Fell to Buttertubs and return via Somonstone. We will be returning.

We have stayed here many time now and would be happy to recommend it to others. The weather was pants but that is just a price you pay for the beautiful scenery and the peace and quiet of the Dales. It's easy to get of the beaten track and avoid people if you want, but there are plenty of tourist attractions if that is your thing.

The hamlet where the cottage is doesn't have a pub, shop, cafe, etc but the walk across the fields down to Hawes takes less than 25minutes and there are paving stones most of the way. It's a lovely way to get to the pub or shops - although the walk back up the hill takes a bit more work!

Lilac Cottage is ideal if you want something clean but basic in a stunning location. We stayed for two weeks, end of June/beginning July and while it contained most of what one would expect to find in a holiday cottage, we found it to be of the absolute bare minimum and of the most basic quality. We didn't find it at all welcoming to come 'home' to at the end of a day out, & found the sofa's and beds quite uncomfortable. This in itself would not be a problem if it was in keeping with the rental cost. ... On a more positive note, the bathroom is a pleasure to use, having a lovely powerful shower with large/double enclosure, & plenty of continuous hot water to be had. The cottage would definitely benefit from a little love and consideration by way of a few homely touches which we feel is sadly lacking... I'm really sorry to have reviewed the cottage in this way, but is meant as constructive criticism.

Lovely cottage nice and quiet with stunning veiws. The only 2 issues we had were with the TV arial when it rained, as the outer casing is split and eroded and made the TV impossible to watch, and the noisy wardrobe in the main bedroom when you walked across the floor.
