If you're after a holiday home with all the mod-cons in the heart of a town or city, then this probably isn't the place you're looking for. If however you want somewhere dark, quiet, private and with beautiful scenery right outside the window, then Leatheswater is perfect. If you want somewhere in the heart of the Lake District which is only a short drive to a myriad of walks then Leatheswater is perfect. If you want somewhere warm and dry to come back to after a hard day wandering through the lake district then...well you get the picture. The flat is self contained with open plan kitchen, dining and living area, seperate bathroom and a very large bedroom. I particularly loved the fact it was accessed from outside stairs which led to a covered entry door. We only heard people from the hotel once whilst we were there. It was lovely to wake up in the morning and look out of the living room window and see across Thirlmere...a beautiful sight even in October. The flat could do with a bit of TLC when it comes to the decorating, however I think it adds to the charm of the place. I have read reviews calling it "dated", but personally I prefer it as it makes it more of a home from home, as opposed to a flat in a hotel. I really liked the fact that the mirror in the bathroom is heated...nice touch! The only drawback we found was the cost of an evening meal (which had to be booked in advance) was £40 per person. That's a bit steep for a meal where we're from. You don't have to eat there as there is a pub within staggering distance, or, like we did, just cook up a meal in the kitchen. I can highly recommend Leatheswater, and the hotel staff that we did speak to were very friendly and informative.

A very quite and scenic location overlooking the lake. The apartment was very spacious and reasonably well equipped. Our major problem was the bed; the mattress needs to be renewed. It was very lumpy and did not give adequate back support. In addition some of the pillows were poor. Overall a good apartment spoilt by a very poor mattress. We would not return unless the mattress was replaced.
