English Country Cottages

From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

Step back in time at Beamish Open Air Museum or enjoy a spot of retail therapy at the Metro Centre both easily accessible.

These two delightful holiday cottages (Refs MRA and MRB), each with its own history, are tastefully converted from former barns dating back to the 1600s. Retaining character and charm, they lie in a peaceful setting overlooking countryside with many cycle tracks nearby. Ideal walking and fishing country, yet close to famous attractions - visitors can step back in time at the Beamish Open Air Museum or visit the Metro Centre (a shopper’s paradise), Hexham (with its glorious abbey), Durham City (a city of contrasts, with its fine cathedral and designer shops), or the Northumberland coast, which are all within an hour’s drive. The medieval castle of Raby has a 200-acre deer park and is a firm favourite with visitors. An ideal location to explore all the surrounding AONB. Shop 500 yards.

Adjoins owner’s home. Open-plan living/dining room with gas ‘coal-effect’ fire in feature black fireplace, limestone slate floor and large modern kitchen area. Open stairs to first floor: Two double bedrooms, each with TV. Twin bedroom. Bathroom with shower attachment, toilet and tiled floor.

Large/spacious cottage which was warm and welcoming. Lovely and clean also, would like to return again to the area and would recommend this cottage to others. Thank you.

We would visit this cottage again, but had some misgivings: 1 - No WIFI (we knew this before we booked, and it almost put us off making the booking.) 2 - No Dishwasher combined with a smallish draining board made washing up after a meal for just three people something of a pain. 3 - The hot system was a nuisance. Basically, the only way to get the hot water to come to the tap was to CRANK the top up to the maximum for a minute of so, otherwise the water just ran cold. There was noise and water spraying around until the hot water arrived. 4 - On at least three (four?) of the days we stayed there was dog mess from the owner's dog(s) freshly deposited close to our car each morning. The owner apologised, but it's not an ideal way to begin the day. Overall, for the price, we felt things could have been more 'polished/finished' (for example, there were no trays which meant breakfast in bed was somewhat frustrating having to carry everything upstairs item by item.) Lovely owner, a decent stay, but the above shows there was some frustrations.

Great place to stay - only one thing would make it better and that is wifi.
