Cottage adequate for 2 but a bit out of the way 25 mins along single track road. A few basic improvements would make it a more comfortable cottage, i.e. a towel rail in bathroom and replacement water damaged work top and broken bottle holder on fridge door.

Wonderful dog friendly location! Possibly needs a little tlc and the addition of a king size bed would only make it perfect.. maybe a strimmer on the grass... all that said a wonderful spot it get away from it all and definitely a revisit for us!

We had visited the area before and knew it was quiet and secluded. The Heron's Rest cottage was exactly what we wanted to get away from it all.

Heron's Rest was an ideal cottage for us peaceful, beautiful views and warm and cosy after days out in stunning Skye. Everything was as described and despite warnings we found it with no problems. Local amenities are a bit sparse , especially prior to main season, but shop has all the essentials. Skye like to hide some of its gems so if the well known sites are busy, look for them, they'll be down a wee road with a wonderful vista at every turn.

A very cosy little cottage, perfect for getting away from it all. It is fairly remote which was exactly what we wanted but may not be everyone's cup of tea. It was tricky to find in the dark - a small sign on the first gate off the main track would be useful - you need to drive through two gates to get to the cottage. However, once inside we were very impressed by the use of space. Although small, the property had everything we needed (except a corkscrew) and the wood burner was amazingly efficient - we were regularly too hot with it burning in December! As is normal on Skye, the garden is only enclosed by a wire fence and farm gate for keeping sheep and cattle out - not sufficient for keeping adventurous dogs in. Although this was not a surprise or problem for us, it may be a surprise to others expecting a more substantially enclosed garden. The neighbouring property is relatively close to the cottage and overlooks the garden from the side but in December we didn't spend any time in the garden, except exercising the dogs. However, once you are inside the cottage it feels very private and the views are lovely. As always we had a fantastic time on Skye and we would definitely stay in this cottage again.

Would be much easier to find if there was a sign on the road indicating that you had arrived at Herons Rest instead of at the second gate. The cottage was extremely well equipped although I had to go & buy a hairdryer. The garden was a little disappointing as it was only fenced off with sheep wire so isn't exactly secure and there was a herd of cows grazing at the other side of the wire when we arrived. The cottage would look fabulous with a new coat of paint, just a suggestion. Saying this we thoroughly enjoyed our stay even though the weather was awful. The cottage is warm and comfortable once the stove has been lit. The owner even brought extra logs & kindling & left them at the door for us. Would definitely recommend the cottage for walkers and people who don't mind being half way up the side of a glen. The scenery out of the window is stunning. We were really pleased and had a lovely relaxing week despite the weather - Isle of Skye is a stunning place so get this booked and go exploring!!!

The cottage was difficult to find and the garden was extremely overgrown even for a natural garden. The dinner table and two wooden fold up chairs were very old and uncomfortable. The cooker was disgusting and needs replacing. The sofa is uncomfortable and also needs replacing. The Belfast sink has seal trim on it that looks very scruffy. The worktop has lots of scratches on it and also needs replacing. All in all nothing was pleasant about staying in this property.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am very sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Heron's Rest. Glendale is a fairly remote area in the Western Isles and many places are difficult to find if you do not do some research beforehand. I had attempted to use a gardener to cut the grass sometime during the summer, but I'm afraid everyone was fully booked so I made an effort to do this myself a few weeks before you stayed there. Because of time constraints, I could only manage to cut an area of a few metres surrounding the cottage. I had also cut the grass at the edge of the access road. I'm sorry if you found this insufficient. During the summer months, grass and bracken grows extremely quickly in this area. As far as I recall, I have never had a complaint about the folding dinner table and chairs and I am at a loss if you believe they are very old. They are in keeping with the style of the cottage. I have a very good caretaker who assures me that the cooker and grill are always cleaned at every handover. As the cottage is not large, it would be inappropriate to have a large sofa as it would take up too much room. The sofa is an 'Ikea' brand and again I do not recall any one else complain about it. I had put the trim around the sink myself some time ago and perhaps it does now need replaced but I'm afraid I believe it's an exaggeration to say that it looks 'very scruffy'. Because the kitchen worktop is wooden, it is inevitable that scratches appear after some time, but I would not say they are excessive or cause any Health and Safety risk. Again, I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay.

Cottage is set outside a quiet village, Glendale. Had 1 shop.To get there is a single track road and there are 2 cattle gates to open before driving into park outside. You would need to drive to the village. Cottage is near Neist Point and Dunvegan is a half hour drive. We found a great walk at Orbost and we had bikes so cycled loads! Lots of hills! But a pleasant cycle to Dunvegan once out of Glendale. Cottage was comfortable. Took a bit of problem solving to work oven ( had to read instructions) and the TV and DVD were the same , but once we had it sussed we settled in nicely. Bed was comfortable. Shower was good and overall we had a pleasant time. Hob was a bit slow to heat up but we just had to cook for longer, got there in the end. There was a bit of land out of the back of the cottage that probably is a garden but was full of long grass. We weren't bothered by this. But if you had a dog it would be running through long grass. My boyfriend was gutted that the nearest pub was over 9 miles away, but that was his fault for not checking where we were staying!!! And really if you want night life you are looking at Portree which is 30 miles away! Overall really enjoyed our stay at this cottage and in Skye. A very beautiful place. This cottage is quite remote but I really liked the peace and getting away from it all. Wifi in cottage ok but no phone signal in there, have to walk through 2 gates to the road to be able to call.
