On arrival we found out the wood burning fire was out of action, which was a big disappointment. Then we had issues with the boiler which left us without heat or hot water for the first night. I was too that I would be refunded the equivalent of one nights stay but have heard nothing since. The problem was rectified the following day. I would stay here again.

There seems to be a problem with one dble bed which has a mattress on it which is too small for the base, which would not be comfortable if two people were sleeping on it. We did not find a pair of oven gloves to use. The gates to the property need some attention. Overall, the house is nice and spacious, lovely views of the countryside, and within easy walking distance of the beautiful beach.

It was a lovely place to stay we enjoyed it very much. our only disappointment was there was no internet connection, as other cottages we have stayed in have had the internet to connect too, and as we have our own business we still need internet connection while on holiday. But besides that it was a lovely house to stay in, close to the beach with 5 children it was just great, and close to the train station ,and pub down the road for meals. It is a recommended place to stay.

I'm sorry to say that the same problems were there from previous reviews toaster only working on one side ,curtains off the rails utility room dirty with old soap powers etc etc . The utility room plastic roof leaked ,the first floor shower overflowed on first night due to u-bend drain blocked . I had to clean it out , it was full and solid it had not been cleaned out in a very long time. Not a pleasant job to do at home let alone on holiday with God knows how many different peoples hairs etc down it looked like a drowned rat was in it . The property felt unloved D/glazed Windows seals were broken so had condensation in them so unable to enjoy the surrounding views in a lot of rooms Carpets worn Drive Gates were hard to open and shut ,key safe needed oil as it was stuck and it was very hard to open (ladies in group couldn't ) We love the Area great for exploring with the kids and it was just a 5min walk to beach but when we return next year to the lakes we will not be staying at this property ,just a bit of TLC and thought it would be a nice place to stay

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are, of course, very sorry that this family did not enjoy their stay at our property however I feel that I must respond to some of the criticism in the strongest possible way. Firstly, it is very frustrating to be told of problems with the house well after the tenant has left. The housekeeper’s details are prominently displayed in the visitors book and she is local and on hand to help if necessary. Our housekeeper was not contacted during their visit and yet she could have offered an additional clean and changed the toaster. The family did contact our housekeeper once they had left to inform her that a child in their party had left a toy - which was duly collected and sent on free of charge - clearly they had the housekeeper’s number but didn't use it beforehand. As strongly as I can I want to stress that Hartrees House is a much loved family holiday home which has been lovingly furnished with items that are very precious to us. It is homely, welcoming, warm and sound and almost as near to the sea as is possible without being on the sea front. The Irish Sea is ferocious causing gates to swell and creak and metal key boxes to stiffen. I have yet to have problems with these (despite being female!) but will oil both to ensure others can open them okay. The toaster has been replaced - and was new after the first complaint - they are just well used and break relatively frequently. According to our very reliable cleaners, all the beds were freshly made up. They were also satisfied that the house was clean and ready to be inhabited, including the showers, but we have taken on board the points made.
