Description

Okehampton, the gateway to Dartmoor National Park is close to this thatched cottage, with beams and inglenook fireplace, with easy access to Castle Drogo.

A comfortable and cosy thatched cottage forming part of a wing of the owner’s impressive 15th-century thatched house. The holiday cottage has been presented to ensure a contemporary feel but still retaining plenty of character including beams and inglenook fireplace. The cottage is spread over two floors with a large living/dining area and kitchen, and then up stairs is a double bedroom and a bathroom. Situated outside the village of North Tawton, the cottage makes an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding Devon countryside. The regional town of Okehampton is close by and is considered the gateway to Dartmoor National Park. The town also provides a good range of shops and amenities.
On Dartmoor, there are plenty of walks for all ages and abilities to enjoy this stunning and dramatic area as well as some pretty villages with pubs and tea rooms. Towards the coast there are many fine beaches and coves including Saunton, Woolacombe and Westward Ho! A trip to Lundy Island can be arranged from Bideford pier. There are numerous places of interest close by including the R.H.S. gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. Visit the last castle to be built in England at Castle Drogo (National Trust). There is golf at Okehampton and Ashbury, or you can hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail at Great Torrington. A wonderful cottage in the middle of Devon. Everything you need is provided, from a welcoming basket of food, to a library of books and dvds. With a selection of board games thrown in for the competitive among you. Watching and listening to all the birds is lovely. If you stay here, you wont be disappointed. Thanks to Derek and Pippa for a lovely stay.

Happy Cottage is a charming little cottage but felt very spacious. We loved the welcome basket with a tasty cream tea, bread and milk. The dogs had a tasty treat waiting too. We bet Pippa and Derek on arrival and found them a very lovely couple, they have made Happy Cottage a very warm, welcoming and homely place to stay. The decor and furnishings are all to a very high standard. The location is very good as it is quite central for reaching all of Devon, both coasts are only 40 minutes away. We would definitely stay again. We had a great 3 night break with our two dogs.

Amazing cottage to stay at. Such a warm welcome from Pippa and a delicious cream tea waiting. The cottage was spotless and the fire was loaded and ready to light. And the bed was soooooo comfy. Will definitely return and would recommend to anyone.
