Okehampton, the gateway to Dartmoor National Park is close to this thatched cottage, with beams and inglenook fireplace, with easy access to Castle Drogo.

A comfortable and cosy thatched cottage forming part of a wing of the owner’s impressive 15th century thatched house. The holiday cottage has been presented to ensure a modern feel but still retaining plenty of character including beams and inglenook fireplace. The cottage is spread over two floors with a large living/dining area and kitchen, and then up stairs is a double bedroom and a bathroom. Situated outside the village of North Tawton, the cottage makes an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding Devon countryside. The regional town of Okehampton is close by and is considered the gateway to Dartmoor National Park. The town also provides a good range of shops and amenities.
On Dartmoor, there are plenty of walks for all ages and abilities to enjoy this stunning and dramatic area as well as some pretty villages with pubs and tea rooms. Towards the coast there are many fine beaches and coves including Saunton, Woolacombe and Westward Ho! A trip to Lundy Island can be arranged from Bideford pier. There are numerous places of interest close by including the R.H.S. gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. Visit the last castle to be built in England at Castle Drogo (NT). There is golf at Okehampton and Ashbury, or you can hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail at Great Torrington. Shop and pub 1½ miles, restaurant 6 miles.

Ground floor: Living/dining room with beams. Step to kitchen with slate floor. First floor: 1 double (6ft) bedroom. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

This is our second stay at Happy Cottage and we loved it just as much as the first. The cottage is extremely well equipped and spotless. It's so cosy and relaxing as it's set in a quiet location. It's home from home, just what we needed and always want to stay for longer.

A fantastic cottage in beautiful location. Our dog loved the walks nearby and there are plenty of great pubs close by too. The cottage was perfect for a few days away, with a very comfortable bed and everything that you need. It was very clean and the hosts Peppard and Derek were so friendly and welcoming. Thanks for a great weekend. We'll be back.

I loved the cottage. It was spacious and beautifully clean with all the comforts of home. The only slight downside for me was that their were no views from the downstairs rooms and the outside space whilst private didn't get a lot of sun. I understand that given the situation and build of the cottage the owners can't really do anything to improve these aspects. They have made the very most of all the cottage has to offer and I would definitely recommend the cottage to others.
