Okehampton, the gateway to Dartmoor National Park is close to this thatched cottage, with beams and inglenook fireplace, with easy access to Castle Drogo.

A comfortable and cosy thatched cottage forming part of a wing of the owner’s impressive 15th-century thatched house. The holiday cottage has been presented to ensure a contemporary feel but still retaining plenty of character including beams and inglenook fireplace. The cottage is spread over two floors with a large living/dining area and kitchen, and then up stairs is a double bedroom and a bathroom. Situated outside the village of North Tawton, the cottage makes an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding Devon countryside. The regional town of Okehampton is close by and is considered the gateway to Dartmoor National Park. The town also provides a good range of shops and amenities.
On Dartmoor, there are plenty of walks for all ages and abilities to enjoy this stunning and dramatic area as well as some pretty villages with pubs and tea rooms. Towards the coast there are many fine beaches and coves including Saunton, Woolacombe and Westward Ho! A trip to Lundy Island can be arranged from Bideford pier. There are numerous places of interest close by including the R.H.S. gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. Visit the last castle to be built in England at Castle Drogo (National Trust). There is golf at Okehampton and Ashbury, or you can hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail at Great Torrington. Stayed at Happy Cottage over the Christmas period to get away from it all! Pippa gave us such a warm welcome, gave us a tour of the beautiful cottage which had been decorated for Christmas. It really did have everything you could possibly think of for a 4 night break - the welcome basket was a nice and much needed addition!! The bed was HHHUUUGGGEEE and was so comfortable - perfect for me with my bad back and my pregnant wife - we won’t start on the much needed and used electric blanket!! Bathroom was massive too and came with loads of toiletries and massive towels too. Overall - we have stayed in lodges and caravans and a couple of cottages in and around Devon and Cornwall and this lovely hideaway beats them all - hands down! Thank you so much Pippa for your amazing hospitality and wonderful cottage use!! Will return for sure!!!

Another fantastic stay at Happy Cottage, a lovely welcome from Pippa, lovely goodies basket & two biscuit bones for Ruby & Elsie 🐶🐶. Had a wonderful time out & about. Went to Dartmoor & Widecombe in the Moor. Went to Tavistock, fantastic Panier Market, lots to see & buy. All booked to return next November. 😊

The word stunning was made for this wonderful cottage. Peppa was so kind and helpful and the views were amazing. The cottage was so cosy but luxurious and we can't wait to go back.

It was a fabulous cottage, in a lovely setting, well equipped, spotlessly clean and welcoming. The owners met you with a very warm welcome and provided a "welcome basket" full of goodies and essentials. Would definately recommend a stay.

A wonderful cottage in the middle of Devon. Everything you need is provided, from a welcoming basket of food, to a library of books and dvds. With a selection of board games thrown in for the competitive among you. Watching and listening to all the birds is lovely. If you stay here, you wont be disappointed. Thanks to Derek and Pippa for a lovely stay.
