Definitely off the beaten track, this wonderful holiday home stands in the most beautiful of settings. Lying to the western side of Corney Fell, which is dominated by Black Combe, you will enjoy the most extensive views. The former Foldgate Farmhouse, nestles around a courtyard with outhouse and stables, and has been extensively refurbished. This welcoming home from home will be a haven to relax and unwind, enjoy the views from the outdoor hot tub or decked areas; or just curl up on the sofa and read a book by the fire. Alternatively, there are plenty of attractions for you to visit in the nearby locality. The small town of Bootle is just 1½ miles with shops and pubs, the lakes Wastwater, Ennerdale and Coniston are all within a 20 minute drive. The coast is 2 miles, Muncaster and Ravenglass 5 miles. Golf and riding nearby. Shop and restaurant 11/2 miles, pub 1 mile.

This is a wonderful cottage and everyone in our group really enjoyed their stay. It is beautifully decorated and we were plenty warm. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms are great (I can recommend the jacuzzi type bath). The kitchen is well stocked to serve a large group and we made good use of the large pans to make some big stews and soups. The caretakers were lovely and showed us how to look after the aga, they also checked in each day to top up the coal supply for it and check on the hot tub. Our only niggles were the wifi which was unfortunately not working, although this was almost certainly the fault of BT, not the owners - and a common problem in any rural area. The dishwasher didn't seem too great and struggled even when we rinsed everything first - but it didn't cause us any bother. Some useful tips for future visitors - be aware that the nearby pub The Brown Cow Inn, is around a mile on foot but this is a private road/footpath so the drive is much longer and it can be muddy (definitely worth the walk though - great pub and lovely food). Take care approaching Foldgate with a SatNav - it is best to stick to the coast road. The inland route which diverges at Duddon Bridge/Broadgate and approaches from the East can be above the snowline in winter and would be inadvisable in the dark to unfamiliar drivers. We encountered some abandoned cars when we opted to take the route on the return in daylight. We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Foldgate. The walks in the area are spectacular and the scenery is amazing. A hot tub in the freezing cold of winter is a great experience. I cannot recommend this place enough and I'm sure we will be back.

Great spot for wanted just let down by leaky washing machine and noisy extractor fans, but everyone in our party enjoyed the "farmhouse weekend"

We had good weather which meant that the evenings were spent sitting in the hot tub and chilling. Kitchen was the hub of our time there which was very well equipped and clean. Beds were really comfortable. The housekeepers were very friendly and helpful.

We had a pleasant family weekend. Wass Water was a great outing, and we loved the boat trip on Coniston Water. Though there were four toilets for twelve people, two were on-suite. So that left one toilet with bathroom for seven guests upstairs. The house was adequate otherwise, plenty of hot water, excellent central heating. The hot tub was fabulous.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. The property is within the National Park and restrictions were placed on design. We would have loved to add more bathrooms and we did put one shower room and toilet on the ground level to help larger parties. Quite often our visitors are couples and only 4 people would share the family bathroom. We do hope you will return.
