Wonderful place for a relaxing family break. We had a full house but we were definitely not over crowded. We were lucky enough to have some great weather in the afternoons, which was spent either in the hot tub or out and about. The Brown Cow provided a lovely evening with a play room for the little children, pool table for the older children and a very lovely meal for all. Great views, comfortable beds, comfortable furniture (just a little dated in the living room), great kitchen amenities with everything provided for including everything needed for a barbecue. Not a lot to do locally, but plenty of suggestions in in the handbook provided you are willing to drive. Plenty of suggested walks for those without small children. We would recommend the South Lakes Zoo, definitely worth the money. We did have a slight issue with the hot tub on the first day, but the caretaker did everything possible to rectify, as well as the owner Ian. We still enjoyed the hot tub immensely and would recommend Foldgate as a great place to stay.

Had a brilliant time at foldgate. It has all the amenities and is hid away in a nice quiet area of the Lake District. A truly hidden gem.

Really comfortable stay for a party of 10 adults, a lovely rural setting - heed the warnings of the low cloud on the fell we had a couple of hairy drives, all fun though I guess. Some rooms nicer than others but upkeep must be hard on a large property as this. Kitchen is lovely and where we spent a lot of our time. Beautiul walking area and great restaurant Beswicks in Broughton - hot tub very nice could do with being undercover as it was raining during our stay. Great peaceful group getaway we would definitely return.

a perfect getaway weekend for the whole family. Beautiful country side, village, pub and beach quite nearby. Everything you need is provided from fairy liquid to towels for hot tub! Very well equipped kitchen, massive table for family meals, warm and cosy AGA . Owners contactable and extremely helpful with nothing too much trouble. Family friendly, with standard cot and/or a travel cot, pet friendly, we kept the lounge with the log burner as a dog free room and the 2 dogs just used the huge kitchen and the 'snug' type lounge with the huge open fire. It is also a great base for walks. Cant praise the owners enough for going the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect!

Fantastic cottage on the edge of the fells, well equipped for large groups, we had 12 of us, and had plenty of space. The kitchen is the heart of the home. The cottage was comfortable and warm, and was a real home from home for us. A great base to explore the western lakes, but close enough to get grizdale and south lakes. Excellent local pub within easy walking distance but take a torch or two.

Me, me wife and 3 other couples stayed at Foldgate for the weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday and absolutley loved it. Set in an absolutely stunning part of the country this cottage offers the perfect getaway. Cottage had everything we needed including all kitchen utensils. Everyone who came with us all thought the beds were extremely comfortable and there were plenty of covers seeing as the weather was starting to get cold at nights. 1.5 mile walk to the nearest pub is definitely a trek over a dirt track so isn't ideal in wet conditions and definitely not recommended if you have a pram. Would definitely recommend Foldgate and will hopefully be looking to book another stay there just as soon as I can.
