English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

With its own sauna, games room and children’s play area, this property is perfect for a family holiday.

This imposing Edwardian country house stands in its own garden overlooking sheep grazing the common at Goathland, whilst the views of moors and forest may be enjoyed from the west-facing terrace. Set in the village of Goathland, perhaps better known as Aidensfield from the TV series Heartbeat, in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, it is in an excellent area for walking – the North Yorks Moors steam railway stops at the village station on its journey from Pickering to Grosmont. Horse riding can also be found nearby.
Whitby (9 miles) is a picturesque seaport famous for its Captain Cook connections, where the cobbled streets and yards stand in the shadow of the Abbey, overlooking the harbour. The three miles of sandy beaches lead to the pretty coastal village of Sandsend. Robin Hood’s Bay (renowned as a bygone smugglers’ haunt), Runswick Bay and Staithes are all worth a visit. Inland, the moors are scattered with villages, many with excellent inns. Goathland itself offers an excellent choice of inns and restaurants, in addition to local shops, post office and cafés. This was our second time returning to Eversfield to enjoy the family birthday celebrations. We all had a fantastic time. The cottage is very well equipped and easily accommodates 12 people. There was a delicious chocolate fudge cake waiting in the kitchen on our arrival. This was a lovely warm gesture. The children had a fantastic time in the games room. Our stay was at the beginning of January, we all still managed to have a walk to the lovely water fall (Mallyan Spout) that was just along the road from the cottage. We are already looking forward to a return stay at Eversfield.

With 6 adults, 4 children under 7 and 2 dogs we needed a home that suited us all and Eversfield certainly won us over. Children and dogs enjoyed the garden and play areas and we could keep an eye on them from afar confident that they were safe. House is spacious and comfortable and kitchen and utility room well equipped. We know the area very well and the countryside walking was relaxing and yet a 20 minute drive to clean safe beaches at Sandsend (just past Whitby). Goathland village has several pubs and tea shops, and stores for grocery top up shopping. Large grocery stores at Whitby (Co-Op) and en route to Sandsend from Whitby (Lidl), but we mostly used the village stores in Sleights which is a short drive from Goathland and has a general store, local bakery and a fantastic butchers/deli/off license. A lovely family holiday and would certainly return.

Great house , actually better then the web pictures looked. Very comfortable and very well equipped throughout. Conservatory is a lovely asset at any time of day, and the sauna was enjoyed. Great garden for the dog. Only criticism is that the games room is fairly uninviting, being quite cold and gloomy. Otherwise a great house.
