Description

With its own sauna, games room and children’s play area, this property is perfect for a family holiday.

This imposing Edwardian country house stands in its own garden overlooking sheep grazing the common at Goathland, whilst the views of moors and forest may be enjoyed from the west-facing terrace. Set in the village of Goathland, perhaps better known as Aidensfield from the TV series Heartbeat, in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, it is in an excellent area for walking – the North Yorks Moors steam railway stops at the village station on its journey from Pickering to Grosmont. Horse riding can also be found nearby.
Whitby (9 miles) is a picturesque seaport famous for its Captain Cook connections, where the cobbled streets and yards stand in the shadow of the Abbey, overlooking the harbour. The three miles of sandy beaches lead to the pretty coastal village of Sandsend. Robin Hood’s Bay (renowned as a bygone smugglers’ haunt), Runswick Bay and Staithes are all worth a visit. Inland, the moors are scattered with villages, many with excellent inns. Goathland itself offers an excellent choice of inns and restaurants, in addition to local shops, post office and cafés. We had a great holiday at Eversfield. Our party consisted of teenagers to Grandparents and we had plenty of space for everyone. The house is equipped with everything you could need. The views from the terrace are lovely. A quiet and relaxing place to enjoy an early morning coffee or watch the sun set in the evenings. The garden was great for cricket and football and the games room was fully utilised by everyone. The two teenagers had their first sauna and loved it. We loved our week here and hope to re-visit in the future. The chocolate cake was enjoyed by us all. Thank you very much.

We stayed here with three generations of our family, six adults and five children. There was more than enough space if someone needed some quiet time they were able to find a pleasant room to themselves. The children also enjoyed being able to get away from the adults in either the games room or garden. During our stay we had a problem with a shower, however the owners were very helpful and were able to get a plumber out to look at it even on a bank holiday.

The house is in a great location, it's big and has plenty of room for a party of 11. The views are amazing and it has a lovely garden. There's a games room to keep people busy, two big dining tables that can sit a large group for meal times and decent sized bedrooms. There are a few problems we did encounter though, one being the house is in need of a deep clean, there is a bit of a foosty/musty smell, the sofas in the living room in particular give off an unpleasant aroma. The additional charge of £7 per day for heat & light did cause some friction within our party as on our second day there was a leak from an over flowing water tank (which is in a locked cupboard upstairs) which came through the ceiling in the large master bedroom and we needed a bucket to catch the water. This was reported to the owners, but nothing was done whilst we were there. We were scared to use the hot water for 2 days so the kids didn't have baths. The couple in the master bedroom hardly slept as they were worried about the ceiling collapsing, especially with their son in the room above. The people on the top floor also had problems sleeping because of the loud noise coming from the over-flowing water tank. Most people didn't want to leave any money for the heat and light due to these problems as we thought we had paid enough to rent the house anyway, however, we grudgingly left the £49 for the week. Why this is not covered in the original cost is beyond me, just seems like a George Osborne inspired stealth tax and when things go wrong seems like a slap in the face. The house has the possibility of being amazing, but we as a group felt let down by these very preventable things. Would we go back? Probably not, which is such a shame as it really could be a great holiday home.

We had a lovely week at Eversfield with four generations of our family. The cottage (house) is spacious and clean and the bedrooms are comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped, although not a huge amount of cupboard space for food. The utility makes up for this & we managed. The two sitting rooms plus conservatory were ideal for our party as we could all have our own space as needed. The large dining table was very useful, as was the large table in the kitchen. We had three dogs with us & the gardens were pretty much secure although we did have a small escapee who managed to bypass the cattle grid on the drive & sneak out. Bigger dogs wouldn't be a problem. The games room was enjoyed by all, although being early February it was a tad chilly. The bathrooms were clean & the showers were good. The jacuzzi bath was enjoyed by the adults and more especially the children. The sauna was a nice luxury. The location is stunning, not far from Whitby. The village is only a short walk & the train station is lovely. All in all we had a lovely week at Eversfield.
