A pleasant and homely cottage but in need of an update in some areas - the bathroom: badly cracked sink and water pressure that meant the shower became a dribble if someone turned a tap in the kitchen; central heating that was permanently on in an August heatwave and radiator thermostats that were broken; bathroom and several other Windows that couldn't be opened; 2 kitchen sinks but only one that had hot and cold water and no drainer; freezer in the garage with the only way in through the up and over door because the back door wouldn't open. In short , plenty of charm but some eccentricities that soon became irritating!

Very nice cottage in a quaint and quiet location. A little musty and dated, but a fine place to spend a few days in northern Scotland.

Cottage needs updating, most urgently replacing mattresses and fixing toilets. Upstairs loo v noisy. But in itself it's a lovely cottage, we enjoyed the open fire v much.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. As with all comments we are keen to address any concerns. The cottage has had all downstairs rooms, the entire external masonry, sheds, gates, garden furniture, garage door etc. painted this year and several new features such as introduction of Wi-Fi, tumble dryer, new rug for sitting room, tablecloth, pots and pans etc. and we are always trying to freshen the cottage. There is a web tour of the property and so guests can see all of the rooms before they arrive to see if they are to their taste. From the mattresses point of view, one single mattresses is brand new this year and the other two 18 months old. They are both grade 4 firmness which is softer than the previous grade 5 (which I have kept in the garage!) and were a response to comments that the previous were too firm but clearly everyone seems to have different tastes. This cottage is my old family home that I bring my family to as often as I can and we have all slept in the beds at Easter with no discomfort whatsoever and subsequent guests have all said that they slept like a log so I am satisfied that the quality of mattresses is very good. The toilets work fine but the upstairs is a bit noisy because it has a sani-flow system which pumps when flushed. The Regional Manager inspected the property very recently and was very complementary about the cottage, praising the high standards of cleanliness, the professional standard of finish and the good quality of the fixtures and fittings.

Very nice, spacious cottage, lots of books and video's. No shower curtain made us feel a little hesitant. Heating system worked fine, my only improvement would be brighter bulbs. It just seemed a little dull when trying to read. All in all a nice place to stay.

On arrival the fire surrounds and the carpet in front of the fire were covered in soot. Soot continually kept following down the chimney during our stay and the smoke kept blowing into the room to the extent you could not sit in the room until it had cleared. No batteries in the torches, which we needed when the downstairs light failed. No instructions on where to find the distribution box. Many lights required bulbs and the caretaker expected us to replace them and would only drop off spare bulbs to the door. Heating went off early on our first night and found the clock on the central heating not been changed at the end of October. Downstairs lights in lounge would then not switch off. Cracks in bathroom sink not very hygienic. Spent most of the week being a chimney cleaner and electrician. Did consider requesting a refund, but probably useless request as this would probably be treated as sour grapes.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; It is disappointing to hear any negative comments and I would like to say that any remarks are taken very seriously and efforts made to rectify any issues. For the 4 night stay it seems that an unexpected problem with soot created a blow back that unfortunately could not be sorted on such a short timescale (sweep was booked) and for this I do apologise (it was pristine as usual when the housekeeper had left the property). The chimney is swept every year, this was not overdue and no-one had mentioned any problem before arrival. Bad weather cannot have helped and a sweep has been in to again clean the chimney so this should not remain an issue indeed the popularity of the big open fire is so great that most guests seem to use it daily and really enjoy it as I’m sure our guests did once it took. Again it is very unfortunate when unexpected problems occur and the electricity has never been a problem before but I believe the sitting room light switch when turned on blew a fuse and some of the house was plunged into darkness. I do want to say sorry that the house torches lacked batteries and the spare batteries and stock of house bulb spares which are normally abundant and available for guests to use in the fuse cupboard were lacking. Our housekeeper normally checks them and was mortified to hear of this but as soon as she was contacted did call over very promptly to deliver supplies. She understandably for security reasons will never enter the cottage unless the guests are present (she would have changed them for them if they had been there) and so left them at the door when finding the guests had popped out (after they kindly changed the fuse). An electrician from Pat Fraser in Nairn has been out (unfortunately not within the short stay) to change what turned out to be a faulty dimmer switch, double check the electrics and there is no recognisable issue that should cause recurrent problems with bulbs or fuses in future but these things occasionally happen in everyone’s homes and the spare supplies in the cottage have been doubled! With regard instructions, there is clear information where the fuse box is sited in the information welcome and the heating is on set timings twice daily so I do not understand comment about that as again there are clear instructions about the system in the welcome pack, whilst any tiny sink crack is purely cosmetic and not unhygienic. As always we will always take comments on board and try to ensure as comfortable and enjoyable stays for our guests as possible.

A lovely cottage that we have stayed in several times. It has everything you need but with some signs of wear and tear.
