We found the cottage clean and well presented , everything worked to our satisfaction and overall we were very happy staying there. It is centrally located in Ross which means you can walk to visit the shops and restaurants etc. We have no complaints and would stay there again, the only slight complaint is the upstairs wash basin which was very small.

A cosy, comfortable home for a week, warm even in a freezing April.

Nice comfortable cottage very close to all the lovely restaurants in Ross. The improvements made over the winter were very much appreciated. Parking is down a short access road and as we have a pick-up truck I reversed in which was no problem for us.

Bedding old bed uncomfortable furniture uncomfortable no shower. Whole place needs a makeover.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Being the Owner of Columbine Cottage and taking guests' comments very seriously, I'll be spending my time in Ross over the festive season to make considerable improvements to the cottage, e.g. a new sofa and chair, single bed, bedding, broadband access, and the bathroom will be equipped with a shower. The upgrading of the cottage will be to everyone's benefit in 2016.

the small bed was foisty and smelly damp the pillows were as flat as a pancake. the bedding was grotty and needed a wash. the furniture was very uncomfortable no shower just a large jug not dog friendly as it was not allowed up stairs had we known this we would not have taken the house

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: This is the first time I have ever received negative comments concerning bed linen and pillows. My housekeeper attaches great importance to maintaining high standards of cleanliness. She lives in Ross and her contact telephone numbers are available to guests. She can be contacted immediately should guests have any concerns, so that if necessary, any problems can be quickly addressed. Additional pillows are stored in the cottage and available if required. The bathroom has a bath and not a shower and is clear from the description of the property. Section 14 of Cottages4you booking conditions clearly states that pets are not allowed upstairs, in the bedrooms and on furniture. I would kindly suggest that guests study the description of the cottage and the booking conditions carefully, to avoid disappointment.

Don't be put off by negative reviews! A comfortable , cosy cottage, well equipped. Close to river, walks and town. Ideal for exploring Forest of Dean and Wales. The parking/ turning is not as difficult as some have suggested, as long as you do not have a very large car. New TV/DVD more than adequate. We managed the bath, but would much prefer a shower.

Good location, handy for town and river, but quiet, which was an added bonus. There is a very modern TV/DVD player (and lots of DVDs) This is importyant for us as we are usually back about 8 or 8.30 and just want to relax with a DVD (we are pensioners). The kitchen is excellent-Oven/Microwave/washing machine and very clean. The main bedroom is big with plenty of cupboards and a washbasin. Our only quibble (along with everyone else it seemed from the visitors book) is that the bathroom has no shower, and no sink or mirror, which we found hard to get used to, but we did. Perhaps slightly more comfortable downstairs furniture?? But overall we were both very pleased to have found the cottage and we really hope to go again next year

The property was in a good location, central to the town. The property was clean, and well stocked with resources such as washing up materials, cleaning agents etc. The cottage was difficult to get to and from in relation to the car and it was a very tight squeeze, especially trying to back out. The cottage needed up dating especially the TV, and the DVD took us three days to work out. There was a problem with wood lice at the entrance of the property.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. I would like to point out that when leaving Columbine Cottage's parking space, it is possible to turn the car. It requires a certain amount of manoeuvring, but we manage to turn our large car (4.80 metres in length) without a problem. As central Ross has very limited parking, the quiet, safe off-road parking the cottage provides, is an enormous bonus. Concerning the TV and DVD, we will now replace the existing TV with a flat screen model and easy-to-operate remote controls, thus helping future guests who are perhaps not so technically versant. We would greatly appreciate it if, in future, guests contact the cottage's caretaker who lives locally, should they have any concerns. We would then be given the opportunity to help them as quickly as possible, rather than them waiting until they have left the cottage when it is too late for us to take any action.

While in a beautiful location, and an attractive property, it is let down by the very uncomfortable lounge furniture and the lack of a shower and washbasin in the bathroom. The economy 7 heating system makes the house uncomfortably hot in the early morning, but sometimes chilly in the evening. If you visit this cottage, you need a torch for the single bedroom as the stair layout at the top is dangerous in darkness.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Previous guests have responded positively to the comfort Columbine cottage provides. The description of the cottage makes it clear that the attractive bathroom does not include a shower, and due to the fact that hand basins are provided in both bedrooms, the benefit is that it leaves the bathroom free for those wishing to use the WC. The electric heaters can be regulated by the guests to correspond to their individual comfort zone. The single bedroom has a reading light above the bed, as well as a central ceiling light. The ceiling light on the landing provides more than adequate light on both the landing and the staircase.
