Cottage was very warm and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen. Good location, very peaceful and quiet. Fittings a little old but everything worked well, comfy seats and beds.

Unfortunately the weather was quite cold hence the cottage was cold as well. The linen was lovely and the bed comfortable and the location was good. I did feel that the addition of a laundry basket to put washing in to take to the line and also a small laundry drying rack to put in the conservatory for small items to dry on but I did mention this to the owner when she telephoned. The bathroom door did not close properly and had a small bolt to secure it and I felt that a proper repair to that would not go amiss but I understand that these are only small things.

I did not feel comfortable in this cottage there was a musty smell as I walked in the front door, there were insect traps around the walls and on the stairs. The saving grace was a good shower and a comfortable bed.l

Response on behalf of the owner. I would ask that anyone reading this less than positive review refer to the review posted by Andrew who stayed in Columbine cottage for 2 weeks, just a week before these 3 guests and their pet arrived. This was Andrew's third visit to the cottage. I will leave future guests to come to their own conclusions.

The Let is very quiet and ideally situated for walks, drives, pubs, shops and restaurants (of which there are many in Ross.) The house is fully equipped (and it all works). Beds are comfortable and the TV/DVD player is a boon in the evening if you don't feel like going out. This was our third visit and we definitely hope to go next year. It is obvious the owner cares greatly about our comfort and it shows

Although the cottage is in an ideal quiet location it is rather dated.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- Having contacted this guest personally, I gained the impression that a more modern property would have been preferred. Although the cottage is equipped with all modern facilities and comfortable furniture. the decor was purposely chosen to create a cosy cottage atmosphere. This has been greatly appreciated by previous guests.

We really enjoyed our holiday. People very friendly. Food was reasonably priced.Weather was lovely - not too hot! It should be made clearer that the access to the cottage and the parking was not easy.

The cottage was in need of a little updating. The kitchen was rather worn, the units especially. Not sure about the bathroom wallpaper which was coming away from the wall at the edges. Also a blind in the bathroom would probably be a little more hygienic than curtains next to the loo! The main bedroom was probably the nicest room in the cottage.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; As the owner of Columbine Cottage I strive to maintain a high standard as appreciated by previous reviews. In response to this review, I would like to point out that the following kitchen equipment is only 1 Year old, namely the cooker, fridge, microwave oven, hot water jug and toaster. Regarding the wallpaper in the bathroom, I suspect the changing hot temperatures are responsible and I will address this problem when I will be in the cottage in July.

We had a good holiday staying in this cottage. Ideally situated for exploring Ross on Wye and the surrounding area. The cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed. The only niggle was that the small garden was not really enclosed so the dog had to remain on his lead. The reason that we would not stay here again is purely that we always holiday in a new area.

Warm, cosy cottage very close to town & river. Seats & beds very comfortable. It's at the end of a narrow cul-de-sac so you need to be a competent car driver. The "enclosed garden" isn't fenced off so it's not very secure for pet dogs. Apart from that, it's a great base for exploring the area
