Description

Branscombe beach is only 2 miles away and the Jurassic Coast is nearby. Visit beautiful locations such as Lulworth Cove, Chesil Beach and Durdle Door.

Rockenhayne Farmstead is situated on one side of a deep valley within 60 acres of woodland and meadowland. Experience natural beauty and an abundance of wildlife, within 3 miles of Branscombe beach. Driving down the mile-long drive, through the woods and fields, look out for deer and other wildlife. The properties are set in the owner’s grounds, but retain their own privacy; they are spacious and furnished to a very good standard. Clock Cottage (HSSI) is one of a pair, and Maple Tree Cottage (HSSK) is a detached barn conversion, ideal for families. Many walks can be taken from the door and for bird watchers this is a haven for buzzards and woodpeckers. The village of Branscombe has two hostelries, a post office/store, a couple of tea rooms and a working forge. Beer is only a 10-minute drive away. The Dorset and East Devon Coast, known as the Jurassic Coast, features many natural landmarks including Lulworth Cove, Chesil Beach and Durdle Door, and offers a selection of the finest sandy beaches to be found in the UK. The Jurassic Coast is ideal for exploring on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. Branscombe is a haven for walkers, with a cluster of thatched and stone cottages nestling alongside a narrow lane at the bottom of a wooded valley. There is so much to do; take a trip on the tram in Seaton, or visit the nearby donkey sanctuary. Sidmouth boasts a beach and each year holds a folk festival. Beer has a lovely pebble beach and plenty of shops and restaurants and quarry/caves which is open to visitors. Honiton market town is the home of Honiton lace and a street market on a Saturday. Many National Trust properties can be found close by. Shop 1½ miles, pub 2 miles.

the place and setting was wonderful. Problem was the lack of recycling with in the place. 2 boxes is no where enough for a two week holiday particularly over Christmas and new year. The shower that has no toilet in needs looking at. The top bed room's floor is very noisy, as stated before, so if you only need two bedroom use the bottom two. these are minor things but would have got a higher score if they had been sorted out I will go again.

Lovely relaxing place to stay. Rosemary greeted us on arrival and showed us around the cottage. Lovely welcome pack of home made scones, jam, local cheese, chutney and biscuits; she couldn't have done any more for us. A good base to visit both Devon and Dorset and we were blessed by good weather. Just be careful of the entrance into the drive/ track as you suddenly come across it from quite a fast road! Give other drivers plenty of notice if you're about to slow down and turn off!
