Tucked away in a picturesque valley, this cottage lies in an idyllic setting surrounded by footpaths straight from the doorstep.

Tucked away in their own picturesque valley, this imposing stone farmhouse (Baysdale Abbey Ref 27943) and three Grade II listed properties (Kildale Barn Ref 27945, Ingleby Barn Ref 27946 and Westerdale Barn Ref 27944) lie on the site of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey in an idyllic setting, where endless footpaths radiate from the door. Accessed by a 2-mile drive, they are set on a working farm where sheep and cattle graze (farm machinery – children must be supervised) within the glorious North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Baysdale Abbey (Ref 27943) has been furnished and equipped to a very good standard. All rooms are spacious, light and airy with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Original wooden floors on the ground level blend with shuttered windows, cornices add decorative touches and open fires in the reception rooms provide a welcoming atmosphere. A large natural garden surrounds the house and is edged by a fenced beck, providing a good habitat for an array of wildlife. Dating back to the 1800s, the other three holiday properties (Kildale Barn Ref 27945, Ingleby Barn Ref 27946 and Westerdale Barn Ref 27944) offer character accommodation in a tranquil and idyllic location. Vaulted beamed ceilings and wood-burning stoves add to the charm and character providing a welcoming atmosphere. Offering 3 miles of sandy beaches is the historic port of Whitby with its picturesque harbour and cobbled streets. Here you can board the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Train (Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films) and take a memorable journey through the stunning Esk Valley. Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Duncombe Park and Rievaulx Abbey are just a few of the treasures awaiting discovery. The coastal villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Sandsend all lie within 23 miles. This is an ideal holiday location at any time of the year. Shop 3 miles, pub 6 miles.

Celebrated my 50th birthday there with friends and family. It exceeded my expectations. An amazing place to stay, and the caretaker couldn't do enough to make everything perfect.

We had a great Christmas with a familiy group. Would have been a problem getting there or out if the weather had been bad but it wasn't.

Great place and lovely location. Family enjoyed it and we had a great time. Only slight negative was the cooker was ineffective and took much longer to cook large meals than it should. Also the kitchen benches were slightly dangerous as they tipped up on more than one occasion! But all in all very comfortable and we would definitely book again!

The property is off the 'beaten track' but well worth the journey. Location is stunning, breathtaking even. Very spacious and we loved the old floorboards and rustic feel to this house. Its a maze of rooms and staircases. The host/caretaker, we very welcoming and very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We were very fortunate with the weather, which made the break for us even more special. Would certainly recommend and use again.

We enjoyed a lovely family holiday here. Abbey was lovely and large and in an amazing setting, surrounded by greenery and wildlife. We would return in future if a couple of things were altered.... Both ovens were poor and for such a large party most mealtimes were delayed considerably due to this, all other kitchen facilities were fine. The mattresses in the bunk bed room were extremely uncomfortable and need to be replaced with something of a much better quality for a good nights sleep. Wifi was far too limited, as the Abbey is remote it was very difficult to plan days out without having internet regularly. The owner commented that the party previous to us had hammered the wifi which i think was why we perhaps did not have it, but for the price we paid and as its stated wifi available then i think it was unfair. Other than these points we really enjoyed our stay. The family were lovely and friendly and asked if we were all ok. The surrounding area was great for heading out to seaside towns and lots to do. The gardens are nice and large, fab for rounders and cricket! All round great family holiday.
