This famous property was the location for BBC’s Monarch of the Glen TV series, located amid stunning scenery.

In a romantic setting amid stunning scenery, made famous by the BBC’s Monarch of the Glen TV series, these two architect-designed, timber clad, adjoining properties (Baltinna West UTY and Baltinna East SGGW) make a truly tranquil holiday retreat. They can be booked individually or together for two couples, and are set within an enclosed garden, each with its own private sitting-out area. Oozing character and warmth, each have their own charms and both benefit from cosy wood-burning stoves in the living room and sheepskin rugs on oak floors. Nestling between the Cairngorm and Monadhliath mountain ranges, Newtonmore is situated in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, a walker’s and birdwatcher’s paradise. Outdoor pursuits found locally include 7 golf courses, fishing on the River Spey, mountain biking, skiing, tours taking in distilleries, RSPB sites, interactive museums, and the towns of Aviemore and Inverness. Shops ¼ mile. Pubs serving very good food within 1 mile. Excellent restaurants locally.

The cottage was well appointed on the whole, a shelf/ shelving in the bathroom for toiletries would have been handy, the office area in the bedroom was a redundant space for us. We would have made use of a bath. The location was excellent, within walking distance to a co-op, hotels serving evening meals and drinks and other restaurants. The description that we were on The Monarch the glen estate implied a more rural setting.

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your comments. I'd just like to point out that we do not say we are on the Monarch of the Glen estate (which is called Ardverickie). I worked on the TV show and the village of Newtonmore was used in locations constantly, as was much of the surrounding area. The description states clearly we are in a village ("pubs and shops within walking distance") and google maps is great for this purpose for any future bookings you might make. Regarding the layout, I suggest if you would like a bath that you book a property with a bath, like the adjacent property Baltinna West, which has a big roll top bath instead of the wet room advertised with Baltinna East. For reference there is a very large area around the upstairs wash hand basin for toiletries, including lots of worktop space and cupboards below, and in the wet room there is a simple window shelf and hooks.

We really enjoyed our stay in Baltinna East. The accommodation is comfortable and very well equipped. In terms of architectural design it is quite a treat! Heating is extremely well sorted and I imagine in the depths of winter it would be very cosy and warm. On the warm summer days we experienced, the upstairs gets extremely hot and the available ventilation struggles to cope. However, overall, I would consider that it would be difficult not to be very pleased with this property. Watch out for the ornamental dog round the back - it made me jump every time without fail! Newtonmore is lovely, very quiet and unspoiled with some good hotels and cafes and having easy access to various areas of the Cairngorms.

Overall, very good, spilt only by uncomfortable chair and sofa.

Nice cottage in a good location for a base to explore the Cairngorms area. Well fitted out & ample space for the two of us plus our large dog. Only negative for us (and it may not be a negative for many) was it was far too warm even after turning the radiators off. We had some nice dry weather during our week in April so I imagine the heat may be a problem during the summer months if it gets a bit of sunshine.

It's the little things that make Baltinna East our favourite cottage - the pint of milk in the fridge, the tea bags & sugar that mean you don't have to dash to the shops the minute you arrive, the loo roll that you've forgotten to bring and the logs & kindling for the fire. We first visited in 2008 and the cottage looks just as good now as it did then. It's comfortable, it's got everything you need (unlike some places where you only get 2 plates you can actually have your pie/salad/etc on a plate in the middle of the table as there is plenty of everything). The location is great - secluded enough to be nice and relaxing, but just a walk into the village, or a short drive to the most amazing cake shop (suggested to us in 08 by the caretaker - thank you! It's become a firm favourite). We watched stars at night, ate cake during the day and squeezed in a trip to see polar bears and snow leopards - what more can you say about the location! Hopefully we'll be back again!

Warm, comfortable and well equipped but floors could have done with a good steam cleaning . Also property is semi detached and noise from water running next door very apparent
