County North Tipperary

Enjoy a relaxing holiday in the beauty of County North Tipperary and enjoy ‘Ireland’s Pleasure Lake’, harbour villages, fine cycling and beautiful gardens. See our self catering accommodation in Country North Tipperary.

Immortalised in the traditional wartime song, Tipperary is located in the mid-west of Ireland and is one of the country''s most picturesque counties. A pleasing patchwork of plains and valleys, North Tipperary is ideal for enjoying a relaxing break while enjoying the best of traditional Ireland.

North Tipperary is a perfect destination for those who enjoy walking, cycling and of course boating as Lough Derg dominates the region and is one of the largest loughs (lakes) in the country at almost 30 miles in length. This picturesque lough is a popular destination for boating, fishing and general relaxation.

The Lough Derg Garden Trail extends for some 35 kilometres taking in eight gardens from Portumna to Ballina-Killaloe. Regardless of whether you’re a keen gardener or just enjoy a relaxing stroll around some award-winning gardens this is a very pleasant way to spend a restful day during you stay.

Nestled among the natural beauty are a number of lovely towns and villages, where the locals always extend a warm welcome to visitors. One such location is Nenagh, the county town of North Tipperary and a place with a rich history. The town is home to a number of historic buildings, the most famous of which is the 13th century Nenagh Castle, its imposing tower keeping a watchful eye over the town. Many visitors to Nenagh take the opportunity of sampling the wonderful food on offer in the town''s many cafes and delis, where a plethora of traditional Irish cuisine can be enjoyed.

In a similar fashion to Nenagh, Roscrea is another of those fascinating little towns which typify North Tipperary and just like Nenagh, Roscrea is home to a 13th century castle. This remarkably complete castle is situated right in the centre of the town and now houses the Roscrea Heritage Centre, which has a number of fascinating exhibits which recount the history of the town and the surrounding areas.
