Description

Explore the Roman wall, Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle, Keilder Forest Park and the Scottish Borders with wildlife in abundance.

Birch Cottage has a multi-fuel burner for a warm and welcoming interior, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring. Relax amid spectacular and dramatic scenery in this gloriously unspoilt part of Northumberland. Lying within the Northumberland National Park and enjoying panoramic views over Whitelee Fell National Nature Reserve, the cottages are former shepherd’s cottages on the owner’s sheep farm, renovated to a very good standard and retaining lots of character. Oak Cottage and Birch Cottage have beamed living room ceilings and all three have inglenook fireplaces with multi-fuel stoves for a warm and cosy atmosphere as well as power showers in the bathroom. There are wildlife cameras which feed live pictures direct to the flatscreen TV in each cottage, so you can watch barn owls, badgers and other wildlife. The area is rich in wildlife and ideal for walkers. Whitelee Farm is an idyllic base for exploring the Roman wall, Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle, Kielder Forest Park and the Scottish borders. Newcastle and Edinburgh are within an easy drive. Shopping in Otterburn and Jedburgh, both 15 minutes away.
Birch Cottage can be booked together with Oak Cottage (16498) and Rowan Cottage (80119) to accommodate up to 13 people.

Thank you to John and Jill for a warm welcome and the tea and biscuits and bottle of wine went down a treat. Beautiful cottage in a stunning location so peaceful. The garden is visited regularly by a pheasant and hundreds of beautiful butterflies they were just amazing. Delightful cottage with everything you could ask for. Could have probably done with more cooking trays/dishes in the kitchen as we cooked every night and sometimes struggled. There is nothing for miles around but so many beautiful places to visit both in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. We all had a brilliant holiday including the three dogs who were made very welcome and loved every minute of it.

We had a lovely time at Birch Cottage. John and Jill are wonderful, friendly hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. They support local businesses and have a range of locally sourced beer, preserves and ice cream for you to try and buy and believe me, it's all top stuff. When we arrived we received a really warm welcome and were given a tour of the cottage. The cottage was toasty and warm as they'd pre-lit the wood burning stove, which was much appreciated. The cottage is just lovely and it instantly felt like home. The views from the bedroom are stunning. There is Wildlife TV for you to tune in to and we were treated to watching visits from the Badger, Fox, Pheasants, Partridges and the Wood Mouse... Be warned though, Wildlife TV is a time waster and you'll find yourself glued to it for hours watching all the antics unfold. All in all we had a great time and will definitely be back.
