We had a lovely stay at The White Cottage. The kitchen / diner is a lovely sunny room with beautiful views. The coal fire in the lounge made it very cosy and it was definitely a home from home. The owners were very helpful, would definitely recommend.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful part of the uk right next to the canal. White cottage had everything we needed and even though it is not a luxury house, we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day break there.

We keep coming back so little else needs saying.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; It was very nice to see you and your family again this year, and we’re really pleased that you had such a good time. From the comments you left in the visitors book in the cottage you have certainly been very busy exploring the area. You have actually given me ideas of places to visit! Many thanks for booking for October 2017 when we look forward to seeing you all again.”

A lovely week spent at White Cottage. The location overlooking the canal lived up to our expectations, a perfect place on the terrace to enjoy an evening drink. The owner was very welcoming and provided sticks and coal to have a fire at night which made it very cosy. Lovely walks with our dog at nearby Lyme park and Quarry Bank, both National Trust properties. We hope to return sometime in the future.

Response on behalf of the owner: We are very pleased that you liked the location of the cottage overlooking the canal, and that you enjoyed visiting the National Trust venues of Lyme Park and Quarry Bank Mill. They are always very popular and there are great open spaces for dog walking at Lyme Park (3 miles away). Lyme Park is where the BBC filmed "Pride and Prejudice" starring Colin Firth. It also has a red deer herd too, as well as a historic house and gardens (check website for opening times) https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lyme Many thanks for taking the time to leave your kind comment.

Having stayed at this property about five years ago, we were aware of the location overlooking the canal but more or less in the village centre. The property has been been kept to a high standard of decoration and since our last stay, the verandah overlooking the canal has been cleared of vegetation and a fence now encircles the enclosed garden giving it more privacy. The property itself was fine for 2 persons and our dog with the kitchen & dining area upstairs. The location of the property in the High Peak is very good for visiting the surrounding area of the Peak District. There was a good hamper of goodies which were waiting our arrival. The owners were also very friendly.

We're really glad that you found the location handy for exploring the nearby Peak District. Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your comments.

Great location right by the canal and very handy to visit family in Manchester. We were welcomed on a miserable, wet day with a lovely coal fire and chocolate biscuits to go with the tea and coffee provided. Lots to do in the area despite the rain. Easy to get right into Manchester Piccadily by train and the station is almost on the doorstep! Lyne Park is well worth a visit and the markets at Bakewell and Bury were both very good.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are very pleased to hear that you found the location handy to visit your family in Manchester, especially after travelling all the way from New Zealand. Glad you found plenty to do in the area and made use of the train link into Manchester. With being a National Trust location, Lyme Park is popular for its House and Gardens, walking, dog walks, history and views. It is where the BBC Pride and Prejudice series was filmed. Bakewell market on a Monday is always popular, as is Bury market which is open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Thank you for taking the time to leave your kind comments.

A unique property, excellent canal side location, sun trap terrace canal side, very friendly reception, nice welcome pack including lit open fire on arrival. Further generosity was the offer for unlimited coal, sticks and fire lighters for the open fire during the stay. The garden is small but our Labrador and us enjoyed the security of it and the towpath is only yards away for dog walks.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the property, and found the location by the canal was ideal for dog walks too. Many thanks for taking the time to leave your kind comments.

The cottage was ideal for a walking holiday with our two dogs. The fresh flowers and chocolate biscuits were a lovely touch. We loved watching all the colourful canal boats going along by our window.
