From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

After a day exploring the North York Moors National Park, relax in the garden room with a drink.

Tucked away in a rural setting within the North York Moors National Park, this former barn and house are set across the garden from each other, enjoy glorious views and each makes a lovely holiday home with enjoyable walks from the door. The Wheelhouse (ref IQL) has been carefully restored to combine a wealth of traditional features, such as exposed stonework and an unusually spacious garden room that was formerly the wheelhouse for horses threshing corn. Harfa Bank (ref IRY) is a true family home and enjoys original beams and a traditional fireplace. Ideal for families or friends holidaying together, the properties are just a couple of miles from the pretty village of Swainby and well placed for visiting the market town of Thirsk and surrounding ‘Herriot Country’. A little further afield is the north east coast with its quaint fishing villages and Whitby where popular Whitby Abbey stands majestically on the headland above the traditional working harbour. For the energetic there is good surfing at Saltburn. The North York Moors and Heartbeat country provide stunning scenery and are wonderful for touring. Shops and pub 2½ miles.

Spacious living/dining room with French doors and oak floor, arch to well-equipped breakfast kitchen with oak floor. Snug/TV room. Separate toilet. First floor: Double bedroom. Twin bedroom with zip & link beds. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Great location and lots of space, well equipped.

Our second time at the Wheelhouse, and where it does lose a point for equipment as it doesn't have wifi (which we loved as you can really switch off), it is the perfect holiday cottage. Peace, quiet, and absolutely idyllic.

We have stayed at the Wheelhouse four times now, so that speaks for itself! Yes it's rural but we love that! Being self employed we need 'timeout' so the reality of bad service on our phones and no wifi is great. The house is always clean and well equipped. Surrounded by great walks including a lovely walk for a beer in the 'ok' local pubs. I would recommend a stay at the Wheelhouse although a little reluctant to say as I don't want it to be fully booked next time we visit!

Lovely location - very quiet with lots of wildlife. Good base to go walking. Very well equipped kitchen. Even after a deluge flooded the road to town, you can still walk to Swainby to shop and visit the pub. I would happily stay there again.

Just one issue that needs to be addressed, the wardrobe fell over in the master bedroom while my son was playing about. Needs to be more stable to prevent an accident occurring. Otherwise great stay.

Utterly wonderful cottage that was the hub for the best holiday we've had in ages! There is no wifi but that's not a drawback when you're in the middle of the most beautiful nature, and is actually a rather refreshing change. We will CERTAINLY return to this most idyllic cottage as soon as we can.

This is a delightful place and on our third visit we again had a wonderful time. However, there are signs of wear and tear, notably the outside windows and doors paint work which is in urgent need of attention. The little sitting room furniture is increasingly uncomfortable and the TV too small in today's world. The kitchen remains to a high standard with excellent cooking equipment and tableware.
