What a brilliant place to stay. Everything we needed was there and we appreciated the attention to detail, such as tea, coffee, milk and biscuits when we arrived. The Stables is well placed for Wells but the countryside around is stunning and had the weather been better, we would have gone for some walks during our stay.

Scott the host was extremely helpful and considerate. The cottage was spotless and had every amenity one would require. I would firmly recommend to all my friends and colleagues.

Although our stay was all too short due to illness - we found the The Stables to be comfortable and well equipped with all we needed, also the added bonus of being close to amenities, the owner Scott was very helpful on our arrival, we would visit again (hopefully in better health) next time.

The stables are a great place to stay, Scott was very friendly nothing was to much trouble. The stables very close to workey hole caves, historic market town of wells and cheddar gorge. Overall a great place to stay.

This was overall a very nice place to stay, in a quiet rural location close to Wookey Hole and a short drive from the centre of Wells. A modern conversion with good size rooms. The lounge lighting was not very good and the bedroom skylight should have had a blind as it was too bright in the morning at that time of year (July). The kitchen could have been better equipped. For instance, there were no casserole or microwave dishes, and the owner was very apologetic but didn't seem to use such things and couldn't provide them at the time, although hopefully he has done so since. There was a bread board but no chopping board, we had to buy one (which we took home with us). There was a pub/restaurant within walking distance, we ate there once but weren't too impressed with the food or the service, and having a captive audience, it was overpriced. The village shop had been closed down for at least a year, although it did look as if building works were going on there so maybe it will re-open, but the village is in the meantime rather lacking in facilities. All in all this was a pleasant stay but will be better when the issues above have been addressed.

Somerset is one of our favourite destinations in the UK and Wells is our favourite city. The location of the Stables is ideal for us. Popular tourist destinations such as Wookey Hole is literally just yards away (although you would never know it) and Cheddar is a short drive. The city of Wells is walkable, although be prepared for hills and some mud on some of the paths. Glastonbury and Street are just short drives away as are some really first rate Wetland nature reserves at Ham Wall and Shapwick. The footpath to Ebor gorge starts less than 20 yards away from the cottage door. There are plenty of places to eat out if you want. The Stables has a rural feel to it without being isolated. The most helpful and pleasant owner lives in the same grounds as The Stables but I could never tell if he was home or not. The cottage itself was clean, bright, warm and quiet. Wifi is available which worked well for 95% of the time. (Slightly better than the service we get at home). We didn't have a mobile signal inside the cottage but there was one just outside. Service depends on the mobile provider. Not having a mobile phone whilst on holiday is not a problem for us especially with the wifi for emergency email contact if needed. Over the years we have stayed in many cottages and now have some shortlist of three favourites that get repeat visits from us. One is on Mull, another is in Norfolk and The Stables has now been added to that list. It was absolutely perfect for us.

We enjoyed our two weeks at The Stables which was so peaceful to come back after sightseeing. Our only complaint would be that we couldn't get a signal on our phones and this was a bit of a nuisance as our family were staying a couple of miles away and we would have liked to have made our plans each morning.
