Description

This property enjoys a village location and offers accommodation for eight; it is perfect for those wishing to explore the South Cotswolds.

Amidst the rolling uplands of the South Cotswolds, this spacious cottage boasts a large paddock-style garden. Carefully restored to preserve much character and charm, The Pump House offers every modern convenience, and well served by the shops and good pubs of the pleasant village of Hawkesbury Upton. This area of the South Cotswolds, has many small towns and villages, which have not changed over the centuries – Thornbury a typical English market town with a wide range of historic buildings or the ancient wool town of Wotton-under-edge with its small friendly shops, tea rooms and inns is a popular shopping place are well worth the drive. There are plenty of museums or national trust houses to visit, Durham Park, Horton Court, Berkley Castle, Oldbury Power station and the Jenner museum to name but a few, and with country parks an easy drive, there’s something for everyone. A little further afield you will find Bristol with its historic churches, maritime connections and architecture and Georgian Bath with its art galleries, museums and theatre royal, along with the wildfowl trust at Slimbridge, Berkeley Castle, Dyrham Park, and the Weston Birt Arboretum all within 20 miles. The Pump House is well placed for a holiday touring this beautiful area, and is just ½ mile from the Cotswold Way.

Great cottage and location. Owners are really friendly and helpful. Kitchen is probably the most equipped of all the rental properties I have experienced. Village itself although quiet, is beautiful and everyone we met was polite and welcoming. Great location for walking and exploring the area, and only a short drive (maybe 7-8 miles) to the nearest supermarket should this be needed, or other market towns are only a few miles down the road. Would stay here again, as I imagine it is very good as well in the warmer months

The cottage is in a nice village and we particularly rate the 2 pubs, both serving food, and the community run village shop . The owners were very kind and welcoming. The cottage was warm and well equipped with good facilities such as the large kitchen /diner and utility room. However the living room was small for the potential number of guests, and could benefit from better lighting as it was very hard to sit and read. Some of the mattresses need replacing as you could feel the springs. It was good to have a downstairs bathroom, but one of our group who has poor mobility felt that the handrails could be better positioned. With a few improvements this could be a great cottage.

Apart from issues with out poorly 20-year old cat which necessitated 2 visits to a Yate Vet, the time spent at the cottage was excellent. The hosts were a joy to meet. Having lived in Chipping Sodbury and Yate for 12 years back in the 80's/90's, it was great to come back to the area.

Lovely friendly welcome from owners, enjoyed the home made wine they left for us! The property was large and well equipped, lovely quiet environment for a peaceful holiday. The only negative point was that they beds could have been more comfortable.

Owners very hospitable and friendly, brilliant holiday very relaxing. Comfortable accommodation. The owners have made sure there is something for every member of your party to do, games, books, puzzles, bikes for small children ,swings and a trampoline. Views spectacular, quiet location but not too far to travel for days out.
