Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

The Lodge is the perfectly located property for a romantic break away and is situated only 1 mile away from the beach, ideal for those evening strolls with your loved one.

The Lodge is a spacious, extremely well-presented wing of the owner’s home, located on a quiet, prestigious cul-de-sac, just a 25-minute walk to the beach and town centre of Shanklin. An idyllic location for walking and cycling enthusiasts with footpaths and cycle tracks close by. Within walking distance, Shanklin offers everything for the perfect holiday base with its numerous restaurants, cafes and bars, whether along the sea front or in the quaint old village with its thatched cottages and local gift shops. This popular seaside town is also ideally located next to Sandown with its amusements, crazy golf, zoo and pier and from the town centre you can catch an open top bus exploring all that the island has to offer. There are many historical houses, beautiful gardens and scenic walks along the Heritage coastline and The Lodge is perfectly situated to explore and discover what is on offer. Other attractions on the island include Blackgang Chine, the oldest themed attraction in the UK, the Ventnor Botanical Gardens, a donkey sanctuary and Calbourne Water Mill which is a 17th-century working watermill. Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle and the sailing towns of Cowes and Yarmouth are also all worth visiting. Outdoor pursuits include walking, riding, golf, cycling and water sports. Beach 1 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

Fantastic accommodation. Really friendly hosts. Extra bonus, a selection of food to get us started. Really dog friendly. Will tell all my friends about it. Could not fault it.

We had a fantastic stay at the lodge. The property was very clean and well kept. Everything we needed for our stay was provided. The welcome basket was a lovely addition and owners also thought of the dogs with treats provided. Owners were welcoming and were always at hand if needed. Lots of information about the island was provided also. Would definitely stay again. The only negative point we had was that there was not a local pub or shop. It is a good half hour walk for these amenities. Having said this though it did not in any way spoil our stay.

We had another brilliant holiday staying in The Lodge. The owner always gets in some lovely 'essentials' and we really find it a home from home. It's very dog friendly with an enclosed garden, there's even doggie biscuits waiting for your furry baby. It's in an ideal location for getting out and about around the island. Really love the IOW and staying here.

Pros: spacious, comfortable, clean, great shower, comfortable bed, generally quiet (though see below), decent wifi, walking distance to Shanklin centre & beach, nice welcome pack. Cons: lack of character, no view, the property is situated on a modern housing estate, sitting in the garden or looking out the window you could be anywhere in the UK. The garden is quite small and overlooked (it's just a section of the owner's garden picket-fenced off) so really not that nice to sit out. No dishwasher, in fact not even a washing up bowl or draining rack. Also you will get typical housing estate noise pollution at times (kids kicking footballs against neighbour's walls, power strimmers, lawnmowers, yapping dogs etc...).
