Had a great week relaxing st the Granary, it was Lambing season when we were there and our little one loved seeing the new lambs. Peaceful, relaxing, only 15 mins drive to Barnstable. The road leading to it is very bumpy but not too bad if you take it slow. Had a great time and great value for money. Would recommend.

The cottage is very well equipped and homely. It is in a lovely place, although the track approaching the cottage is very rough. It was lovely to have a welcome bottle of wine and jug of milk.

The owners were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We had everything we needed (apart from the weather!), but we enjoyed the log fire in the evenings.

The cottage was very comfy able , homely and well equipped . In a beautiful location on a farm , tucked away at the end of a lane . We had a very warm welcome and an enjoyable bottle of wine awaiting us. We loved the wood burner and it gave the cottage an especially cosy feel in the evenings . There are lots of really nice places to visit which are within a short driving distance . We visited Lynton and Lynmouth,Ilfracombe, Clovelly and Exmoor zoo, all of which we can highly recommend . We spent s week at the Granary in October and had some beautiful weather which enabled us to get out and about to explore some of the delights that North Devon has to offer . A very enjoyable week and would love to return one day . Would definitely recommend staying staying at the Granary.

Granary Cottage was lovely and secluded, just what we were looking for. We will definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for a week in August. Beautiful and quiet and the owners were so friendly. Fresh eggs and a lovely open fire every evening you couldn't want for much more. The kids had plenty of space to play and farm animals to see. The only two faults are that there is no freezer just the little box in the fridge and the driveway to and from the accommodation is very bad, both minor issues. Apart from that it's a perfect place to stay. Were coming back next year we enjoyed it so much.

A beautiful, unusually spacious holiday cottage. Clean and well equipped. Our hosts were lovely, very welcoming and helpful but not at all intrusive. We loved being able to 'cuddle' the calves and the fresh eggs were delicious. The location is lovely and you feel at the heart of the farm in the yard. There is a long unmade track to get to the cottage which is perfect for forcing you to drive slowly and enjoy the beautiful wild flowers. The cottage did smell a bit damp, but we loved the fact that there was a cosy fire lit for when we arrived. We would certainly come back and will be recommending to others too.

The location was quiet and peaceful. Shirwell the nearest village did have a small shop. Barnstaple was the nearest place with good amenities, almost 7miles away. The remoteness would have been an attractive feature for a peaceful break and we were aware of this before travelling. But as we all enjoy walking ( and had come to join walks in Barnstaple) we did expect to be able to find walks from the cottage, however it was restricted where we could walk with no public footpaths. The road to the cottage was a very rough and bumpy. The cottage itself was clean, with pleasant lounge and a cozy woodburner, the kitchen was reasoably equipped and our hosts were friendly. However, our comfort was hampered by the beds. The double was ok, but both single ones needed mattresses replacing, as springs were visible and uncomfortable.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner :- Thank you for your review, we sincerely apologise for the uncomfortable mattresses, these have now been replaced with new ones. We are a working farm and access to fields is not always possible due to certain farming activities and safety e.g Bull in field, Cows with calves and crops etc. The closest public footpath is about 1 mile away, accessed via a quiet country lane opposite the lane to the property, which takes you for miles around the national trust property Arlington court and beyond. There was a leaflet in the property showing various walks and on inspection this leaflet is missing I shall make this information an addition to the house book. I must point out to others who may read the review that there is NO shop at Shirwell. There are various farm shops but they are a drive away. The closest amenities are in Barnstaple and Ilfracombe both approximately 7 miles as stated in the property description. We thank you once again Diana for your review and helping us to improve for the future.
