Situated in the grounds of the owner’s farm where pure bred Aberdeen Angus cattle are raised, The Barn (ref UKC2787) and The Granary (ref 26502) at Toft Hill Hall boast a superb location. The Barn has fabulous views, and the open plan living/dining/kitchen areas are spacious and grand with high ceilings and a beautiful feature window. It has comfortable furnishings and a warming wood burner, whilst each of the three bedrooms offers an en-suite and there is ample space and privacy for families or guests that like to holiday with friends. The north-facing balcony area is the perfect vantage point for enjoying the view and there is also a separate, enclosed garden area for those al fresco evenings. The Granary is converted detached granary. It uses a low carbon air source heat pump for both hot water and underfloor heating throughout and electricity is supplied by the farm’s own wind turbine. Overlooking the hills and dales of beautiful County Durham guests will be able to see over miles of open countryside right across to Durham Cathedral and beyond. Hidden away down a quiet country lane yet conveniently within easy distance of the county’s most historic and unspoilt scenery, Toft Hill Farm has something to offer guests of all ages.
The properties lie only 5 miles away from Bishop Auckland, where the incredibly popular Kynren Spectacular is performed between July and September every year. Barnard Castle, the Bowes Museum and Raby Castle can all be reached within an easy 30 minute drive as well as the historic, cathedral city of Durham which has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Younger children and train enthusiasts will enjoy taking a trip to the National Railway Museum in Shildon which is only 15 minutes’ drive away or take a ride on The Train to Christmas Town which runs through nearby Weardale and leaves from Stanhope Station only 25 minutes away. Perfect for walkers and cyclists too, the properties are surrounded by open countryside and fields, and guests will find many established walks, public footpaths and cycle paths within the area leading out into smaller villages including Witton-le-Wear, Escomb and Butterknowle. Hamsterley Forest is one of the north’s most popular destinations for cyclists too, and is only 11 miles away. This impressive 2000-hectare site covers some of the most beautiful countryside and offers various bike trails of different difficulties and plenty of walks for guests of all abilities including the very popular Gruffalo Trail for children. Beach 26½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

    We left the UK 8 years ago to live in Central France - The Granary was the ideal location for us to return home to spend New Year with family living locally. We have 3 dogs which were welcomed. The property simply has everything that you could possibly need, including toiletries and a very thoughtful welcome pack that included home baked chocolate brownies and a bottle of Cava. The owners are friendly and approachable, but respect fully the privacy of guests. The kitchen is stunning (we love to cook) - beautiful bathrooms, with luxury towels included - bedrooms wonderful, with luxury bedding - just superb.

    Only thing missing from this lovely newly re-furbished cottage was an au-pair. There is not much enclosed outside room for a dog at the rear of the property. Would certainly return to this cottage & this part of County Durham.

    This cottage is a delight. Lacks nothing you will need to make your holiday comfortable. The owners are unobtrusively helpful. The location is central for most attractions in durham. If walking is your thing then you'll be spoil for choice.

    This is a comfortable,well equipped spacious house nicely set, with good outlook, outdoor sitting area catches the sun. The cottage is near lots of places of interest, large shops and supermarkets only ten minutes away. Was pleasantly surprised with the bedrooms as the photographs didn't show them to be as bright as they actually were and roomier than imagined, both with lovely on suite bathrooms. The owner was very pleasant and helpful. Had a very enjoyable, relaxing stay.

    Had the most wonderful Easter weekend staying at the Granery! We have two Australian Shepherds that love being out and about so the location was amazing for exploring the local area. Within a 20 minute drive we were able to reach some beautiful walks and the owners kindly allowed us to use one of their fields that was spare to give the dogs a run about in when we first arrived. The Graneey itself was just like a home away from home. It was spacious and comfortable with everything that we could need for our stay. After a day out walking it was perfect setting down to relax for dinner and have the log burner going in the background, we even managed to sit outside despite not being the warmest! Would definitely recommend and will be planning a return trip.
