Description

Surrounded by 200 acres of parkland this delightful cottage is ideal for exploring the Border country.

The 200 acres of glorious parkland surrounding Mellerstain House, one of Scotland’s grandest stately homes, designed and built by William and Robert Adam, provide a wonderful setting for these three delightful cottages (S4166, S4568 & S4569). Visitors are welcome to roam the grounds including the fabulous Italian-style terraced gardens which command panoramic views over the lake to the distant Cheviot Hills. The scenic and historic attractions of the Border country are all close at hand and the beaches of Berwick and Holy Island are also easily accessible. Kelso (6 miles) offers shops, inns and restaurants and is home of Floors Castle and the famous Kelso Horse Races, whilst Edinburgh, with its magnificent castle, museums, galleries and excellent shopping, is only a 35 mile drive. Fly fishing can be arranged locally, several golf courses are nearby and shops and pubs are just 3.5 miles away. Beautifully appointed and very comfortable, these three properties offer a unique holiday opportunity. West Lodge, ref S4166, is a charming 18th-century stone cottage enjoying its own garden with splendid views towards the Cheviots. Clock House, ref S4568, has been beautifully converted to a high standard to form part of the Old Clock House dating from the early 18th century. Adjoining the Clock House is Courtyard Cottage, ref S4569, which has also been lovingly converted to a high standard and boasts three en-suite bedrooms. The courtyard coffee shop serves delicious home cooking on ‘house open’ days - and special occasions, large and small can be catered for by arrangement in the state rooms of Mellerstain House.

A lovely little cottage. The grounds of Mellerstain House are absolutely stunning, even a tiny play area for the children. The four poster bed is VERY creaky, don't turn over in your sleep!! Other than that we were very happy and comfortable and would definitely return.

The property was comfortable, Mellerstain House and its grounds are wonderful and Kelso, with its shops and restaurants, is a short drive away. Therefore, the property met our requirements and made a good base for exploring the border area.

An excellent , dog friendly cottage. The grounds of the house were great for exercising our bernese mountain dogs in the morning and evening. Only downside was that the cottage was not within a mile of a public house as indicated on the website. The nearest pub serving food was approx 7 miles away. Now that would have been a walk!

Lovely location, ideal place to relax and get away from everything. Cottage has everything you need and is very comfortable. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and would return for a third visit.
