Description

An idyllic North Cornwall retreat

An idyllic North Cornwall retreat. Higher Tresmorn Cottages is the perfect holiday location to enjoy the beauty of North Cornwall. Nestled peacefully in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, adjacent to National Trust land, Higher Tresmorn boasts some truly spectacular sea views. This is the ideal spot in which to relax and unwind. The 16th-century farm buildings have been converted to a very high standard retaining plenty of character and charm. The Annexe sits adjacent to the owner’s farmhouse. With its galleried bedroom over spacious open-plan living area, it is a very romantic hideaway. Little Wren and Swallows Swoop are single-storeyed, standing together and are perfect for families and friends while The Roundhouse is a superb, spacious, open-plan detached property with sea views from the patio and a cosy wood-burning stove for those colder evenings. Dramatic views can be enjoyed from the coastal path or walks along the cliff top discovering the many hidden coves. A beautiful, quiet and secluded part of Cornwall rich in natural beauty and character. Take to the surf at Crackington Haven or Widemouth Bay or explore the many rockpools. Whether surfing, walking the coastal path, playing golf, fishing or simply relaxing, this stunning location has something for everyone. Crackington Haven is just a few mintues’ drive and has an excellent beach shop and tea rooms and beachside pub serving good food. The popular resort of Bude is just 12 miles and has an excellent range of shops and restaurants along with tennis, surf school, indoor splash pool, bowling and three more sandy beaches. The picturesque fishing villages of Tintagel, Port Isaac and Padstow are close by. For a great day out visit Crealy Adventure Park, the Blue Reef Aquarium and the famous Eden Project. Shops and pub 2 miles.

Good, authentic base camp from which to explore some of the most fascinating parts of north Cornwall. Low standards as to cleanliness (stove, bathroom floor). Tub only for the sporty, not easy to get in and out. Bed rather soft. Very dog friendly. Nice welcome drink. Still, we feel we paid too much for what we got.

The location is an excellent starting point for hiking tours along the costal path. However it is far away from any pub and thus there is hardly any option to have a drink or two in the evening. Even though the general cleanliness was ok, some major parts of the furniture were run down signifiantly. In addition the kitchen was poorly equipped and the carpet floor in the bathroom remains peculiar... However the most embarassing issue was the hospitality of our landlord. Compared to what we expected we did not feel welcome, just tolerated. What should be mentioned is the fact that dogs are allowed, but has to be kept on a lead all the time since many other pets (sheeps, chicken, a pony etc.) belong to the farm.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: I am sorry if you felt in any way unwelcome at Higher Tresmorn we take our visitors needs very seriously and hope to make everyone feel at home and for them to enjoy their holiday in this very special part of the country. We hope the cottages are equipped with everything that anyone would need for a holiday but are always happy to provide anything extra if at all possible! We are so lucky to be situated in such a wonderful position and to enjoy such spectacular sunsets so that our visitors can sit and enjoy these with a glass of wine in peace and quiet. Dogs are indeed very welcome here and can always go off the lead if well behaved and will not chase the animals. Most visitors dogs enjoy the freedom and playing with our resident terrier Percy who loves the children and the dogs who visit us. The chickens are let out later in the day to roam the garden after laying their eggs, most people enjoy eating the eggs and also seeing the chickens living such a happy and free life, the pony Jasmine is an elderly shetland who is very quiet and has given a huge amount of pleasure to many people and is a great friend to all the children who visit us.

good property, location too remote for us, some minor issues e.g. pillows need replacing, no slip mat in bath, large bleach stains on bath mat, settee and armchair past their best. Nice touch with welcome bottle of wine and milk .

Nice place to stay, lovely scenery in easy walking distance. A very warm welcome from the owner's daughter; great to arrive to a bottle of wine after a long journey. Our dogs enjoyed (well I assume they did) the space outdoors as we did.

Another barn conversion done to very average diy standard, a shame because it has the potential. Broken bathroom light pull and bulbs out. Nice remote location, lovely walks, but outside space mixed with owners washing line and her dog permanently roaming around, if your taking a dog, it will constantly want to play with yours. Owners car parked outside your cottage, you have to park at a further away barn. Felt unwelcome by the owner from day one. Spoilt the whole holiday. Not recommended, would not stay again.
