We stayed in 'Russets' for 10 days in August 2017, two adults and a 2 year old who slept in travel cot provided by Charles. I was very concerned after reading the really negative review left. However Charles rang us a week or so before we left and he was lovely on the phone so some fears were alleviated. On arrival yep the drive is very narrow where you leave the car and yep I was a wimp and let my husband park the car, but the annex is lovely. The kitchen window looks out on a meadow, its so beautifully quiet and the house is so clean and tidy. For the important stuff..... beds are comfy, the kitchen has pots, pans etc, no its not as 'packed' with various instruments as my kitchen is but I more than managed cooking dinner every day. Charles and his wife had left a few tea bags, coffee and sugar for our arrival along with a couple of bottles of cider ;). There were some towels, tea towels and bits and bobs in the bathroom so if I had forgotten anything we could have survived, plenty of hot water and a good size bath. I have incredibly thick hair and no the shower isn't as powerful as mine at home but if I can wash my my hair in the shower it's a good shower. I used the washing machine and there is a washing line and pegs and Charles's wife helpfully lent me their washing basket too. TV with dvd player and Charles has left some dvds in there too for those nothing on tv nights. Having small child we were always 'home' by tea time and it did feel like home for our 10 days. We didn't have any problems with WFI but we didn't 'stream' lots of stuff but I did download a few bits for our small person and it worked fine, i was able to Facebook and what's app video call everyday and hubby did listen to cricket etc via Internet, it all worked fine. On the whole we had a lovely 10 days exploring the area we brought local (over the road ) jam, veggies and eggs, Charles and his family couldn't have been nicer or more helpful and if we come back this way we wouldnt hesitate to contact him to stay here again maybe in the future stay at another of his properties.

Unfortunately I pre booked blind and stayed for 1 month whilst looking for a house. The best thing I can say is that it was clean, the bed comfortable, and the landlords friendly and accommodating, if slightly quirky. The rest is negative. Parking is very tricky with a large car. The rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade. Peach bathroom suites have never been in fashion, even when these were put in in the 1980's. Heating is via plug in oil heaters to supplement radiators run off the main house (and therefore beyond your control). The shower is pathetic and drowned out by the noise of the extractor. Wifi so temperamental as to be useless. Kitchen layout is awful and cooking equipment a miss mash of cheap new and second hand junk. Two old fashioned TV's stacked gave awful pictures, a DVD player that fast forwards every 5th second of play, when a weeks rental would pay for a brand new smart TV from Sainsbury's. The black leather rock hard sofa was the most uncomfortable I have ever sat on contrasting weirdly with doily covered grandma chair. Even if this was rented at half the published rate there are infinitely better valued rentals out there. Time for the Landlords to spend some money.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We were disappointed to read your review following your stay at The Annexe. We have been letting the property for 4 years and in this time, we have had no complaints in fact, most people are very happy and have said so in cards and notes in the visitor’s book. The Annexe is both clean and spacious - most of our clients are not bothered about the TV as they are on holiday, in a beautiful location, and wish to explore the surrounding area rather than watch TV. The TV, although a little old, is serviceable and in perfectly good working order however, we have ordered a new flat screen TV and this will be available to guests shortly. It also has an integral cd player for which we provide a stack of old and modern CDs. Also, as part of our ongoing maintenance programme for the new season, the bedroom is being redecorated. We are puzzled by your comments on the heating as we noticed you often had the windows open and we assumed you were maybe too warm? The granny chair is "exactly that "a parker knowl upright chair for old folks and as this is a good proportion of our visitors we provided then with a comfortable seat designed for the purpose. The fan in the bathroom is of industrial strength because we were fed up with the silly little quiet one and the bathroom being filled with steam by guests because they would not open the window. It is totally switchable so you do not even have to run it when not using the shower. Parking is provided on site and we accommodate 6 cars if needs must, it is unfortunate that you found the parking to be difficult. In conclusion, we would like to say we’re sorry you did not have an enjoyable stay, maybe this was not the ideal property for you. I would like to suggest researching future accommodation / destinations prior to confirming a booking to avoid any disappointment.
