Scottish Country Cottages

From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

This peacefully located property is overlooking the River Dee with wildlife on the doorstep.

Overlooking the gentle meandering bends of the River Dee where wild red deer roam, this former taxidermist’s workshop and cottage has been completely rebuilt under the ‘Mar Estate Golden Jubilee Project’. After lapsing into dereliction, this magnificently appointed property has been restored to its original 1884 timber construction, taking into account every last detail. Further enhanced by the addition of modern day facilities, it stands as a real gem of a holiday home, amidst spectacular scenery. The village is home to the annual Highland Games, the Braemar Gathering. Games were first held here in the 11th century, when contests were set for the local clans in order to pick the bravest and strongest for Malcolm Canmore’s army. Perth is little over an hour’s drive away, as is the beautiful granite city of Aberdeen. Shops 3 miles.

Living room with superb views. Fitted kitchen/dining room. Double bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

This was my 12th visit to Stuffers Cottage, I think that says it all. It is perfect for me, peace, wildlife and the beautiful setting of river, forest, mountain and loch. The cottage is clean, warm and comfortable, which was especially appreciated on this visit, as there was a considerable amount of snow during my second week. I hope to go again in October.

Excellent location with views over the river to Mar Lodge. Only a short distance from Braemar for supplies, yet enough to feel secluded. Comfortable, cosy cottage. Ian the caretaker was extremely courteous and helpful. Cottage may benefit from inclusion of payphone, although since nearest phone box location is relatively nearby. All in all excellent holiday accommodation for 2 enhanced by 4 days of unseasonal weather for November(18 degrees)on one particular day.

This was my 10th visit to Stuffers Cottage, which really says it all. It is a very special cottage in a very special location. Utter peace and quiet, fantastic scenery, abundant wildlife, and many walks from the door. I have already booked for next April.

I really enjoyed my time here, the cottage was ideal for me, being alone, though I did wonder whether the standard-sized double bed would be comfortable enough for some couples. It was good to feel the warmth when opening the front door, plenty of storage for walking gear. I appreciated the family-sized fridge-freezer and the system for obtaining a good number of TV channels. I would very much like to return one day as it is in such a good location.

The cottage was amazing clean and fully equipped. If you are a walker or a nature lover this place is great for both. I had great fun with my camera traps filming the deer at night behind the cottage. A must is to visit a big super market before you get there and stock up well for the week if you are planning to cook during your stay. Just one minor and silly point we would have liked an outside table. Oh and if your staying in August insect repellant is a must for any walks.
