Description

This beautifully converted stone barn is an ideal base for exploring both Devon and Cornwall.

These beautifully converted stone barns (refs GTM and GTN), adjacent to the owners’ home, are set between the picturesque villages of Altarnun and Polyphant. Both properties combine mellow stone walls and old beams, have well-equipped kitchens and their own garden with furniture, patio and barbecue. The holiday cottages have an elevated position overlooking an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and provide an excellent centre for exploring the coastal paths and moors of both Devon and Cornwall. The Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and several magnificent National Trust houses and gardens are within easy reach, as well the fascinating seaside villages of Boscastle, Tintagel, Port Isaac and the food capital of Cornwall, Padstow. An Ordnance Survey walk passes right by the cottages and the area is a walkers’ paradise. The historic market town of Launceston, 5 miles, offers supermarkets, shops, a castle and sports facilities. Plymouth and its many attractions is 25 miles away. The area has a growing reputation for good pubs, restaurants, farm shops and locally produced food. Admired golf courses, fishing, horse riding and cycle ways can be found nearby. Shops and pub 2 miles.

Nice cottage with lovely owners and a warm welcome with scones and tea. The owners are located at the Round House at the same property and can always be reached should any problems arise. They are very helpful and have some great insights on where to travel in Cornwall. The area is lovely and quiet and lush and green. It is a wonderful area to calm down and experience a few quiet and relaxing days. The cottage and equipment were a bit antiquated which -depending on the view- might also be seen as lending it a rough charm. Some windows could not be closed entirely without a rather large gap remaining. Not well insulated and therefore cold. The mattresses provided for the baby cot were not satisfactory (one was entirely made of plastic and had no sheets, the second one was a stained worn out coil spring mattress). The highchair was not usable (belts were defective).
