Description

A grand waterside venue for special occasions and corporate away days with abundant outdoor activities and places to see.

Ideal for large family gatherings and celebrations, this spacious, detached holiday house on the Isle of Bute was previously a hotel and occupies a prime position on the water’s edge, with spectacular views of the sea and the surrounding islands, showing the west of Scotland at its very best. If you can drag yourself away from the mesmerising views from the windows of St Blanes House, then there is plenty to do on the Isle of Bute. The island has been named as one of National Geographics ’Top10’ global adventure trips. There are many breathtaking scenic walks: the West Island Way Walk starts in the same village and the Kelspoke Trail meanders behind the house over the heather covered hills and takes in the glorious sea views.
There are three golf courses on the island, cycle tracks, horse riding, kayaking and lots of wildlife to see. For those interested in fishing, the inland lochs are popular with anglers for coarse and game fishing. Loch Fad offers anglers an opportunity to fish for rainbow trout while those with a passion for sea angling are spoilt for choice. Close by is Mount Stuart House, an extravagantly decorated stately home. It is said to contain more marble than any other building in the British Isles and has become a popular location for wealthy celebrity weddings including Stella McCartney and JB Gill from the band JLS.
A few miles away is the island’s main town of Rothesay, a traditional Victorian seaside resort which has managed to maintain its grand architecture. It still has its ancient castle, built to fend off the Vikings, and a museum. From Rothesay harbour trips can be taken around the islands on the Waverley, the last sea-going paddle steamer ship in the world. Further along the coast is the pretty harbour town of Port Bannatyne. There are also other sites such as St Blanes Chapel and Ascog Fernery to be found. The island attracts many annual festivals including the Jazz Festival in May, T in the Port in June, ButeFest, for music and food in July, the Bute Highland Games in August and the Baird Festival of Flight in September to mark the first ’All Scottish, heavier than air, powered flight in 1910’, just a few years after the Wright brothers first flight in France. At the north end of the Isle of Bute is a wee car ferry that provides easy access to the Cowal Peninsula and another way onto the mainland for those wishing to explore the Highlands of Scotland.
The house is located in the small village of Kilchattan Bay, it has a glorious sweeping sandy beach where children and dogs can run freely. A small stone pier near the house is suitable for launching small boats and jet skis into the beautiful clear sea. It has a post office and a pub with good food, 1 mile away (they run a free courtesy mini bus). St Blanes House aims to be one of the best self-catering venues for family get togetherness, corporate away days, weddings or parties in Scotland. It has a large games room with a table tennis table, pool table, darts board, lots of toys and board games etc. In the living room is a selection of musical equipment, drum kit, guitars, microphones, amplifier, keyboard, trumpet, karaoke machine and even flashing lights. The dining room has hosted many weddings in the past when it was a hotel. Weddings can be performed by prior arrangement with the local registry officer and catering can be organised. All the bedrooms are themed to add a bit of fun and interest to your stay. You can arrange for a dog walker and cleaner (at cost) to visit during your stay to ensure everyone has a chance to relax! St Blane's is the perfect house for a family gathering or celebration. Lovely rooms and great facilities for a group of 20 plus. Views are gorgeous and the individually decorated rooms are a joy to explore.

Had a fantastic time celebrating our ruby wedding with family and friends at St Blanes . This house is superbly equipped with everything that you could possibly need, to creating afternoon tea, and a formal sit down dinner, breakfasts in the kitchen area set you up for the day. The small t,v, room was brilliant as the men could watch the sport and leave the girls to enjoy cocktails in the bar! The bar area was the hub at night time with plenty of room for everyone to lounge about with the log burning it just set the atmosphere, the karoke and drums being a great hit. Nothing was to much bother for Helen, when we had any enquiries prior to our arrival, even down to fitting a stair gate just before we arrived. The small personal touches such as the beautiful red roses, and leaving toys out suitable for the baby, and the excellent welcome hamper was very much appreciated. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, love the little quirky touches! wont spoil the surprise for future guests .Fantastic place for a celebration, love to return.

Absolutely brilliant, the house itself had everything you could ask for, just a pity it is so remote. Local hotel, 1.6 miles away was excellent also and sent a mini bus on 3 trips for our party of 26. A little expensive, but once there the spending stopped apart from visit to hotel.

Had an amazing family holiday as a surprise 70th. The owner Helen has thought of everything. The house itself has been renovated to perfection and the location fantastic. We were extra lucky with the weather which allowed us to appreciate the full potential that Bute has to offer.

We had a wonderful week at St Blanes. Children loved the space inside and out. Island walk at the end of the road was very exciting for children. Beautiful beaches.

St Blanes house is even better than in the pictures. It was exactly what we needed for a group of 18 adults and there was space for more. Accommodation is not normally the highlight of a weekend away but when staying in St Blanes it was. When we arrived outside the house we were in awe of the size of it, and the views onto the water. Inside there was more of the same, with the large spacious rooms and excellent facilities. Helen, the owner, was very helpful with providing information before we arrived and offered suggestions as to how to spend our time in Bute. The bus stops right outside the house and takes around 25 minutes to get into Rothesay. It's quite pleasant ride and you hardly notice it as you take in the views of Bute. As soon as I was back home I was recommending this house to friends.

We had such a fantastic time in this brilliant house. Loads of space, games and equipment. The bar was just so much fun for a wee birthday cocktail party, and we made full use of the instruments too.
