Compact accommodation with good equipment. Excellent situation for visiting tourist attractions in Wiltshire. Good rail connection to Bath from Trowbridge.

The cabin has all amenities you need, however is more of a base to sleep as catering at home is fairly limited. Would recommend only really suitable for 2 people maximum.

According to the Visitors' Book, many people have enjoyed their stay at Pear Tree Cabin - and I'm sure that it's fine for a couple who just want a base for a summer holiday and not to cook. However, it wasn't suitable for us. From its description, it was what we wanted, i.e. somewhere properly self-catering to comfortably accommodate 3 adults and, unfortunately, it failed on both counts. The inadequate provision of both storage for food and its preparation made cooking a proper meal very difficult and the tiny 'living' space meant there was no room to move around when the sofa bed was unfolded! Also, the heating was inadequate for December temperatures - it is, after all, just a cabin. There was no heating in the shower room and nowhere for 3 large wet towels to dry. Added to that, the heating in the bedroom had broken and was awaiting repair. A small fan heater was a very poor substitute, especially as it had to be plugged into an extension cable in the living area and only reached as far as the bedroom door! The taps on the kitchen sink were very loose - and we didn't dare use them on the last morning in case they failed completely and we couldn't turn the water off. The access to the cabin was very uneven and scruffy with a large pile of broken wood which had large nails sticking out. We were very wary of stumbling into that when finding our way past it in the dark. All in all, very disappointing which is a shame because the owner seems like a really nice person. But we wished we had just gone to Travelodge where we would have been warm, had more space - and a decent bathroom.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; Please accept my sincere apologies for everything stated in your review. You are quite right to point out these issues and I am sorry the cabin did not meet your expectations. Unfortunately over the course of a season and with little time to fix issues between bookings, some things do go wrong and need repair and on occasions there just isn't time to get tradesmen in to do these things. The heater in the bedroom stopped working for our guests the week before you arrived and I was unable to get a like for like replacement. I have now installed a new heater in both the bedroom and the lounge along with an electric under blanket and new luxury bedding. I have also booked an electrician to install a heated towel rail and heater in the bathroom area following feedback from a few guests. I didn't know about the taps until after you had left but these were replaced the following week. Apologies for the woodpile, I was simply very busy and hadn't got round to sawing it up and storing it away, no excuses though. I have ordered more sensor lighting to light up the path, driveway and the patio in front of the cabin. I am afraid the size though is something I can do little about although I agree with you about preparation space and will look at how we can better arrange that for future guests. The cabin itself is being updated and overhauled in the next 4 weeks with many new features and comforts for the benefit of our guests. Again, please forgive me for your less than satisfactory stay.
