A renovated cottage on a working farm with idyllic views of fells. A short stroll from the lake and amenities with further attractions at Penrith – 6 miles.

Minutes from Lake Ullswater

Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. Shops, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

Pros: Friendly welcome from both Amanda & Nigel. Scones and preserve left for our arrival, which was a nice touch. The cottage was also lovely and warm at all times. Bedrooms were exceptionally lovely with comfy beds. It was quite cold and windy for the majority of our stay as April time, but we could imagine how pleasant it would be, to sit in the garden area at the back of the cottage on a sunny evening, with the lovely views across the fields. It was lambing time, and the farm was very busy. Nigel invited us all to the lambing shed to see the new born lambs and calves which was great for our little girl to see. The farm is situated just a few minutes drive from Pooley Bridge which is a lovely village with nice pubs. Nigel was installing a dog shower in one of the out buildings whilst we were there, which could be handy to wash muddy paws/tummy's etc. Cons: No back door to the cottage, so had to walk around the front to access the rear garden or lane. It went very dark early (April) and there was no outside lighting along beginning of the lane or over the garden area. Although we had a torch, negotiating the cobbled yard to take the dogs to relieve themselves, was rather tricky and a bit spooky.

Excellent cottage, well equipped, warm, plenty of space. Brilliant location. 10 minute walk to pooley bridge.Only downside was that wifi was only accessible at 1 window - great for switching off but not so good for catching up with emails.

This was our third visit and, as always, a lovely cosy cottage, well equipped, very comfortable beds, great shower, very friendly and helpful owners and a lovely cake and flowers upon arrival with the added bonus of a wood burning stove for those cold nights. We will be returning next year as it is the best cottage in the area!

We had a lovely week in Mill Moor cottage. We had a lovely welcome and were made to feel like we had a 'home from home'. Being a working farm, there were plenty of tractors, trucks and a quad bike for our wheels-obsessed little boy to visit multiple times a day! We didn't have any safety concerns at all (our kids are 5 & 2). The farm is very well located to be able to access the surrounding area, and on the sole wet day we had, the kids were kept very well entertained by the Rheged Centre that's only 10mins drive away. The accommodation was generous and the kitchen well equipped. Our grocery delivery order arrived slightly before we did on our arrival day, and not only was this not a problem, but we arrived to find it all unpacked for us! We would be very happy to stay here again.

Well equipped , owners really care can't do enough for you. Lovely welcome package of home made scones & jam. Easy walking distance from Pooly Bridge, only down side was nearest local walk from farm was stile rather than gate so could not do it with our dogs as too high to jump & they too large to lift Shepard & Lab

Lovely location in the lake district with some great views and easy access into the heart of the national park. The cottage met all our expectations and was like a home from home. Would recommend to anyone that it's a great place to stay for a holiday

The cottage was comfortable, clean and cosy. It was well equipped though not new, it was perfectly serviceable with plenty of hot running water and very comfortable beds and sofas for our evenings by the log fire after a hard days walking. the location was to die for with lovely walks from the doorstep. The family and the two resident dogs were very friendly.

The cottage was very nice however we told the farmer to get some more cats that killed the mice as they kept eating our ginger cake!
