English Country Cottages

From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

An ideal base for city or country, close to cycle tracks and walking paths and within easy reach of Durham city.

These two delightful holiday cottages (Refs MRA and MRB), each with its own history, are tastefully converted from former barns dating back to the 1600s. Retaining character and charm, they lie in a peaceful setting overlooking countryside with many cycle tracks nearby. Ideal walking and fishing country, yet close to famous attractions - visitors can step back in time at the Beamish Open Air Museum or visit the Metro Centre (a shopper’s paradise), Hexham (with its glorious abbey), Durham City (a city of contrasts, with its fine cathedral and designer shops), or the Northumberland coast, which are all within an hour’s drive. The medieval castle of Raby has a 200-acre deer park and is a firm favourite with visitors. An ideal location to explore all the surrounding AONB. Shop 500 yards.

The property is situated only a short drive from Bishop Auckland which plays host to the magical Kynren Eleven Arches spectacular from July-September 2016. Kynren - an epic tale of England - promises to be a historical extravaganza with a case of over 1,000 people set over 7.5 acres of County Durham. There’ll be 14 action packed and movie-like performances of colossal and dazzling proportions. The shows will incorporate a full size lake with pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects making it a true spectacle in every sense of the word!

A great cottage to stay in, clean, comfortable and a high standard of decoration. A good base to explore the area from.

Holiday in February. It snowed but we were lovely and warm. As other reviewers have commented it is only let down a little by not having a plumbed in shower.

I stayed at the Methodist cottage whilst visiting family who live at Chester le Street. We received a warm welcome on arrival from Heather. The cottage is very warm and inviting , immaculately clean , well equipped. I would have no problem in recommending it to others, and will certainly be booking again.

Although Tantobie might be thought of as a little off the beaten track for many tourists it is, nevertheless, not difficult to get around County Durham and other areas from there. The location of the cottage itself is rural and peaceful and is a little gem. The interior is bright and warm and nicely furnished. The owners are friendly and very helpful so overall we enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to go back should we want or need to be back in the general area.

Lovely cottage in perfect peaceful location. Only one negative point, and that is the lack of a stand up shower. No wifi, which was ideal for us, but not my daughter! Other than that, it was perfect :-)
