Description

A traditional farmhouse with wonderful views from the enclosed garden. A fantastic base for large groups wishing to visit Northumberland and the Lakes.

This traditional farmhouse lies half a mile beyond the outskirts of Alston on the borders of Northumbria and Cumbria, central in the North Pennines, an AONB. Alston is said to be England’s highest market town. Fishing, riding and golf nearby. Follow some of the local rambles or the Pennine Way. The glorious coast and countryside of Northumbria is within travelling distance, as are the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Scottish Borders. Water sports at Talkin and Keilder Water. Gateshead, only an hour away, has a large shopping centre with restaurants and ten screen cinema. Or just stay home and relax in front of the fire and eat together with family and friends. Set in a garden, bordered by mature trees with panoramic views over green fields and wild fells. Before it lies the site of an ancient Britain fort, and behind, the Roman’s Maiden Way. The town has a quaint cobbled street with public houses, butchers, bakers and its own candlemaker. An ideal holiday base. Assisted wheelchair users can be accommodated on the ground floor.

The farmhouse had everything that is needed by a large group for a lovely holiday. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we couldn't have asked for more. We would not hesitate in returning for another stay.

A great choice for all types of groups - well equipped and located just under a mile from the town centre. The owners are on site which is great in case anything goes amiss. Limited choice in the town for shops and pubs but we ate at The Cumberland and Alston House Hotel and both were well priced and of fabulously high standards. We will definitely be back one day !

Lovely place, very clean, lovely and warm, location fab, views to die for, comfortable chairs and sofas, really comfy beds. We didn't know we had to take our own saw or axe to chop the wood but there happen to be enough logs for the wood burner in sitting room which was fab and very hot........mmmmm......lovely. If you go in a few cars it can be very tight, 23 of us in 8 or 9 cars and had to park almost on the roadside, but we managed.
