World War 1 army barrack, ingeniously transformed into welcoming and comfortable accommodation, Whitby close by with its abbey and harbour.

Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War 1 army barracks are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining 7 lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of parking and an outdoor sitting area.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks as well as golf links nearby. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafes and a restaurant. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country or visit Whitby and its famous Abbey which is 11 miles away.
NB: As the four lodges are in close proximity to one another, they could be booked for groups of up to 24 guests. Additional en-suite rooms available on site, on request with owner.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. 3 bedrooms: 1 double, 2 twin, each with en-suite bathroom with shower over bath (or shower cubicle only) and toilet. Separate toilet.

Gas cooker. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Large decked area and seating.

All properties: Gas central heating, gas and bed linen included. Electricity by £1 meter. Towel hire. Cot and high chair on request. Video. Microwave. Spacious grounds. Ample parking. No smoking.

The cottage was absolutely fantastic - plenty of room and warm and cosy. We were made very welcome by the owners who couldn't do enough for us. The problems were that 3 of us were OAP's and it was not easy to get about in Staithes because of the hills and steps and of course, the cottage was at the top of the village. We did visit other areas including Whitby, Eden Camp, Redcar and Saltburn and as two of us are walkers - we did do a couple of long coastal walks which were fantastic. One of the other problems were that as we didn't have EE telephones, we had no signal to phone anyone and we were not informed of that on booking, also there is no broadband signal.

The place was great. Unusual, in its slightly scruffy exterior situation, but marvellous inside.. comfy and large, full of smart bathrooms, and very warm... (important as it was xmas) ...nice views and a terrace, with a short steep walk to the harbour and excellent pub food down there. Smart little supermarket and fish and chip shop nearby as well as other local shops and small galleries. Would like to try in summer sometime, but would definitely recommend for any family or group of friends, whenever!

Have stayed several times at the site and have always enjoyed it. Particularly appreciated the way Sarah sorted out a few queries that we had.

Lovely place to stay once we had found our way to the lodges. Plenty of space within and ample room to sit outside. Location really nice and despite one of our party having an injured leg we managed to have lots of lovely walks including going into Staithes several times. Both the dogs in our party enjoyed their walks and their stay at Keel Lodges.
