A beautiful Dales cottage with all the 'cottage' features you would expect. Open fire, beams, 'cottage' style furniture etc. The kitchen is superbly appointed with all the equipment and utensils you might wish for. Two toilets, one downstairs. Lovely peaceful gardens, both front and rear. The cottage is in the small picturesque village of Bellerby where there is a local pub. It is ideally situated in the heart of Wensleydale and all towns, beauty spots and country walks are within easy reach. The cottage is about a mile from the local village/town of Leyburn where there are all the facilities would need - pubs, shops, local market etc. The owner is always extremely pleasant and helpful, always available and nothing is too much trouble. We have already recommended this cottage to friends.

We wanted a cottage full of character and this is exactly what Holly Cottage gave us. Cosy, comfortable and very homely. The cottage is extremely well equipped, with everything you would require. The garden is the perfect place to sit in the sun and enjoy a coffee. The cottage is perfectly situated for exploring the surrounding area. The welcome pack was very much appreciated and added the personal touch from Alan. We will certainly return to Holly Cottage and will be recommended to our friends and family.

We stayed at Holly Cottage at the end of January and had excellent walking weather for wintertime, cold, dry and sunny. The cottage is beautifully kept and presented and has everything you need for a perfect home from home. Upon arrival, Alan (the owner) met us in the cottage and had already prepared and lit the open fire; it was very cosy and snug and such a friendly welcome. Alan is a walking guide and told us a lot about the area and some of the best walks to do. Alan's welcome goodies pack of local cheese and ale was a nice touch. The cottage is in the pretty village of Bellerby, well positioned to tour the Dales from. There's some excellent walking locally. As well as enjoying days out in Wensleydale we also headed to Coverdale and Swaledale. After a daily hike out and about we would quench our thirst and enjoy a few of the local Wensleydale ales perfectly kept at the Cross Keys Inn just a short stroll (too close!) from the cottage. Roger, Anita and Guinness (our Collie).

Response on behalf of the owner:- Many thanks Anita for a great review of Holly Cottage. It was a pleasure to meet you both and Guinness too. We are delighted you fully explored everything that the area has to offer even in January which also confirms that The Yorkshire Dales is very much an all year round destination. Glad you also appreciated the cosy log fire at the end of a good hiking day. Look forward to welcoming you back.

Delightful old cottage but with all the amenities you would need. Loved the open fire and character features. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing break in a traditional cottage within a lovely Yorkshire village. Special mention to owner Alan for his hospitality and welcome.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Many thanks for the positive feedback and awarding us a perfect 10. Nice to be appreciated and hope to see you both in The Dales again next year.

It was very small upstairs, the bathroom in particular with a high step up to the shower. The kitchen was nice, however the lounge could do with a refresh but still keep the character and would benefit enormously from a wood burner as the fire is quite smokey. This isn't a complaint at all but some constructive advice. We enjoyed our stay and the area particularly Middleham and also half a day hiring an electric bike from Leyburn.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your advice. As mentioned in a recent response to a previous review, we did experience damage to the chimney during a violent thunderstorm. It has since been repaired & swept since your visit. As for upstairs, this is a 300 year property and is typical of a traditional Yorkshire Dales Cottage in a conservation area. These features are the reason for its popularity. I am delighted you were still able to enjoy your holiday.
