Hillside Cottage is a traditional whitewashed cottage situated amidst open countryside in the crofting hamlet of Sheigra on the stunning North West Highland coast. This attractive croft cottage is set in around 4 acres of grounds and enjoys stunning views to the sea and the surrounding open countryside. The immediate area is heaven for outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of the great outdoors generally. Hill-walking, climbing, canoeing, kayaking and sailing are all local sports. There is a thriving pony trekking centre in the village, with rides amidst spectacular scenery. Fishing in the surrounding lochs and rivers as well as sea fishing is a popular pastime. The area is also a haven for wildlife, with seals and otters in the bay and numerous varieties of birds attracted to the region. The beaches in this area are renowned. Sandwood bay is particularly noted, with a wonderful walk across the machair to its secluded sweeping sands. Sheigra bay is about 500 yards away from the cottage and Polin and Oldmoreshore are also close by. Kinlochbervie is the nearest main village. This cottage is remote, its 16 miles to the first dual carriage way road. However, it is 16 miles of beautiful scenery. It is also some considerable way to the exchange and we weren't able to log onto the wifi during our stay. The cottage was very clean, very well equipped and comfortable. The aga in the living room was a strange choice, but the dog approved of this cosy spot, and being detached meant that we could turn the TV up when the heating "kicked in". We had one hitch with the heating, contacted the owner who insisted that the engineer turned up that day to fix it. That was up and running within about 4 hours of making the call to the owner. The beach, the rides out to John O'Groats, via Thurness and to Ullapool were full of "oh wow" moments that had us parking up to savour some amazing views. We drove over to Dunrobin one day, its a bit of a ride but if you set out with the intention of making the journey part of the trip you will enjoy the whole day. We also found some lovely tea rooms and cake shops. Yes, we would go again.
