Description

Set within 130 acres and only a mile from the Blue flag sandy beach of Broadhaven on West Wales ’Atlantic Coast’

One mile of woodland pathway connects this detached, three bedroomed, cedar-wood lodge to the Blue-flag, sandy beach of Broadhaven on West Wales’ Atlantic Coast. Nestled on a south-facing slope within 130 acres of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Haroldston Lodge really does provide the perfect antidote to the chaos of urban life. The large picture windows which adorn its well-designed living area not only flood the space with light but invite effortless appreciation of the beauty of the natural surroundings that won this unique site, the David Bellamy Special Distinction Award. The veranda across the front of the property provides an ideal spot for feasting on the catch of the day and observing the activity at the nearby otter ponds, while inside; cedar walls, a flame effect fire and comfortable soft furnishings offer cosy evenings in. This superb location offers guests access to the fishing reservoir, well-stocked with large carp and other coarse fish, children’s play equipment, adequate parking for a boat and trailer and a vast, unrestricted, varied landscape of outdoor adventure. Wi-Fi Broadband (at an additional charge of £20 per week) and tree-lined, country lanes connect this natural, restorative haven to the rest of the world but you’d be forgiven for never wanting to leave such tranquillity behind. A twenty minute amble through Haroldston Woods rewards you with the vast sandy beach of Broadhaven, offering bathing for families and good surfing, windsurfing and sailing opportunities. The Nautilus on the seafront offers an excellent venue for absorbing the view and dining on largely organic, locally sourced Pembrokeshire produce.

We had a lovely holiday. The lodge was very clean and well equipped , if a little dated. You are right out in the country and we found it a little difficult to find.

The site is fabulous and excellently maintained, a real oasis of greenery and trees, and plenty of space and walks for the dogs. The beaches are great, with broad expanses of sand, which the dogs also loved, being used to our stony beaches in Eastbourne. However, the lodge itself could be better maintained - you can see light shining in through the boards in some places. Since the weather was warm this didn't matter, but it might be draughty in colder times. Apart from an hour or so every morning there was no reception on the TV, which was annoying, but there is a good selection of DVDs.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday and liked the site and area. With reference to your comments regarding the Lodge, I would like to explain a little. We bought the Lodge 3 years ago because we loved it and the area, and we've managed to complete a large job every year, 2 years ago it was re-building the verandah, last year replacing the furniture and beds, and this year it was replacing the carpet making sure there was good underlay for insulation. Our intention eventually is to re-clad the lodge, because due to shrinkage and expansion of the timber, as you rightly point out there are slight gaps. Regarding the TV signal, unfortunately there's nothing we can do about that. We bought a new TV / DVD player this year and have a signal booster but it is still very variable. Apparently this is because we are the last lodge at the bottom of the valley and the mast is barely visible to us. That aside we feel because it is such a lovely holiday destination hopefully it will only slightly mar your enjoyment, and we hope to welcome you back another year.

Wonderful location with superb walks and so many amenities within close proximity. There are only three areas which affect comfort. The shower is not very powerful and variable in temperature. The back of the settee sticks into the back of the head and is not very comfortable. The lack of a freezer could be a problem for a week's stay. But besides these minor moans we had a great time despite the weather. Waterproofs recommended.

The lodge suited our needs for the week. A couple of things were irritating, the fridge, although new, lacked a freezer compartment which seemed a bit strange, this should be mentioned in the advertising! We had to throw away a carton of ice cream we bought for the week, no big deal, easily replaced, but annoying. During our stay the bathroom door needed some attention, it didn't close from the outside. Television signal is hit and miss, so don't rely on viewing for evening entertainment. The charge of £20 for WiFi seems a bit steep, available for free in lots of local cafes. On the bright side the lodge was warm and comfortable, and the dog walks from the site, and in the general area, are fantastic. We loved the area, the beaches are amazing.

We were very lucky with the weather, saw Broad Haven at it's very best! I have only one issue - dogs are welcome so it would have been good to have a kennel on site where they could be looked after while we were off for the day. Haroldston Lodge is in a beautiful location and was well kept, lovely gardens and lawns right on the edge of the woods. It was lovely to be able to walk through the woods down to the beach!
