Set on the edge of a village, these cottages are ideal for exploring Cockermouth and the northern fells and lakes, and enjoy stunning scenery without experiencing the same hustle and bustle of the central Lakes. Finished to a very good standard, the cottages have everything you need for family getaways including a hot tub each, and have shared use of a superb, private indoor pool with sauna and spa within the courtyard (£20 per hour). Each cottage has its own style and attributes but all share lovely outlooks over farmland towards the Solway Coast, 4 miles. Halls Bank Farm ref 13196 is a 17th-century sandstone farmhouse, tastefully decorated. Its original outhouses stand in a walled courtyard where a stream runs through to the paddock. Berwyn Bank ref 15825 is a wonderful sandstone barn attached to Halls Bank Farm and has been skilfully converted, retaining much of its character, with some flagged floors and beams. A large living room on the first floor gives super views towards the Scottish mountains and Solway Coast. It was originally a bank barn, therefore there is an external level access to both the ground and first floor. It also has a private enclosed garden. Previously a barn in a former 17th-century farmsteading, Beckside ref 17926 is a charming single-storey, detached stone cottage that has been totally restored with exposed beams and interesting features. It stands adjacent to the swimming pool. Spacious and well-presented, Stackgarth ref 29673 is a charming, detached holiday bungalow with thoughtful and welcoming touches. The market town of Cockermouth is 6 miles, Keswick 14 miles and Buttermere 12 miles. Bassenthwaite Lake, 6 miles. Private fishing on the River Ellen for salmon and trout, 1 mile (free of charge). Golf and horse riding nearby. Beach 10 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub ½ mile. The properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 28+1 guests.

Ground floor: Living room. Dining room. Kitchen. 1 twin bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 2 double, one (four poster) with en-suite shower room and toilet. 1 twin. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Z-bed for child available.

    Cottage was beautiful and great value for money. Would definitely go back. A few disappointments, the sauna was not working and we were not informed, the hot tub was over chlorinated, causing skin and eye irritation. The owner would not answer her phone, tried several times before arrival with no reply. Only 2 hours each day allocated for the pool and no choice over time preference, the times we were given did not suit our schedule and therefore could not make use of this. Despite all of this, we wouldn return due to it being such a beautiful place and good value for money.

    Well equipped but the property is neglected with many broken items including the stair gate - there was a 1yr old in our party. We informed owner repeatedly who did nothing. Had a fly infestation in a bedroom and 2 members of our party received cuts to their feet in the pool. Owner again informed but then wasn't seen again for duration of holiday - no phone reception to ring her.

    Wow, perfect house, perfect hosts. Thank you Carol and Harry, you made our holiday complete. Yes you have to pay electric when you leave, so what! The hottub runs off Carols electric, that's why there's a charge for the hot-tub! All Carol and Harry want for you is a perfect holiday and that's what we had! So beautiful, the house and grounds are maintained to a very high standard, it feels like home. We told Carol she should update her photo's as it has been modernised beautifully but still in keeping with the style of house. The working fireplace was superb. Thankyou for the cakes on arrival, lovely touch and proof of your caring side! We will definitely be back in a heartbeat!

    Everything available that you could ever need. Hot tub was great and the twice daily swimming pool times suited our activities. The owner was so friendly and accommodating.

    Have stayed at Carol & Harry's cottages many times they never disappoint, we always have a great time. We will be back next year to see the Lambs & Chorizo.
