Just loved this cottage, spotlessly clean, well equipped, cosy wood burner, I found beds comfy, it looks pretty a a picture. I feel its been getting unfair reviews, and have no complaints at all, the shingle drive is not steep at all!! I would book again and would love to live there all the time!!

A beautiful cottage in a stunning location with easy access to north Devon and Cornwall. We were disappointed in the amount of wood left for our first fire as there was only 1 piece (if we hadn’t brought our own it would have been a cold first evening) The mattresses have seen better days as they are too soft and have no support left in them

Georges cottage is a pretty quaint thatched cottage within walking distance to the beach. The cottage is beautiful from the outside, inside is fine but could be much better. The cottage did smell damp, but then the back of the cottage is built into the hillside so no wonder. Using the dehumidifier and having the log burner on every night did help with that. The drive is on a hill, very impractical being gravel as we wheel spun up it every time. Reversing was the best option but not ideal at all, I'd say number one thing to change. Garden was a bit overgrown when we stayed, felt the hedges needed a good cut as plenty of privacy being higher up from the road. Our 2 small dogs had 6 ticks found on them after being in the garden which I read has been a problem for other guests ,but a particularly bad year for ticks in Devon on a whole. After reading previous guest comments it was clear the cottage used to leave some scones as a welcome but no longer do that. Every other cottage we have stayed in leaves a welcome hamper or cake or something similar for your arrival , it is a really lovely inexpensive touch that goes a long way!

George's cottage looks like a nice cottage and it can be a nice holiday cottage if it was clean, but it insn't! This is a cottage for dog lovers who doesn't mind dogshair and dust everywhere in the house.

Having read the recent reviews on Georges Cottage about it's cleanliness we were concerned what we were going to find on arrival and we were pleasantly surprised. Everywhere was clean although a little tired looking in places. There was a lingering smell of wet dog but nothing as bad as recent reviews suggested. It was only noticeable occasionally. The dog hairs on the sofa was a bit of a problem but only a small annoyance and didn't detract from the lovely location and the cosiness of the cottage. We were lucky enough to have a fabulous week of weather which allowed us to sit out in the garden (which is quite private and peaceful). The only noise we heard most of the time was the water running in the stream that is adjacent to the property. We also had the pleasure of a very friendly robin who would come and feed from your hand. All in all, a lovely cottage in a lovely location.

Excellent location. Close to the beach and the coastal path so easy walkies with the dog. But be warned - steep climbs involved. The garden was secure enough for our border terrier but I could see a big dog might be able to jump the gate. The dog tags for the cottage were a nice touch if fido decides to do a runner. Generally clean but there was some mess under the sofas (as discovered by hungry terrier...) Upstairs was good. The cleaning is done by an agent, not the owners, but cleanliness was acceptable. The cottage was comfortable enough and if you have dogs it'll get messy downstairs pretty quickly anyway. There is nothing close by, so you do have to get in the car to do anything other than walk. But getting to Padstow or Lynmouth is quick enough. Only downside of the holiday was the Freesat stopping working on our last day. But this was a minor inconvenience and the broadband was fast enough to stream to phone/tablet. Enjoyed our stay here and would go again.

Cottage in idyllic location best suited for dog owners Booked as an Easter getaway for myself my hardworking hubby and our two girls. The area and description of the cottage sounded heavenly, was so looking forward to our week. First impression on opening the door to the cottage was the very obvious smell of dogs and the fact that the pictures on the Internet were perhaps a little misleading as the downstairs area is much smaller than I had anticipated. My husband who is just over 6 feet, found it quite amusing that he couldn't stand upright in the living room area as he was taller than the ceiling. Struggled a bit to find places to put food as there is only one small cupboard for storage other than a dresser which smelt a bit damp. Kitchen area was ok, plenty of crockery, pans, utensils, although oven looked like it had not been cleaned properly for a while, which could also be said for the floor downstairs, which would have benefited from a good wash. We are animal lovers, have four cats at home but quite off putting bring greeted with damp dog smell each time entering the cottage, also settee and cushions which have also been "bed" to visiting pooches. Upstairs better, clean bathroom, clean fresh smelling bed linen and perhaps one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in whilst on holiday. Although disappointed with the accommodation, the area lived up to all expectations and for that reason would love to visit North Devon again, although sadly not to this cottage, perhaps our own fault for not registering that it allows animals but also feel that the general cleanliness and upkeep is not of a good standard.

We had a wonderful week at George's Cottage. Small and cosy and away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives. The walks were glorious whether you wanted to walk through miles of countryside or around the coastal paths.Views were breathtaking. Our little dogs loved it too. Would definitely recommend.
