Big disappointment that garden is not secure and dog friendly; secure enclosed garden was our main criteria when searching for our holiday cottage. Apart from this cottage was fine, location is lovely, very peaceful, no mobile phone signal.. bliss!! If garden was as advertised would have much higher rating from us

Georges cottage was a very quaint English cottage but feel a few tweaks and it could be really special - the garden was not enclosed fully for dogs as they could easily run onto the road outside through the hedge. Also as previous reviews the two sofas needed to be replaced as were very uncomfortable. The storage space in the kitchen could be improved (nowhere to put our food) had to put food items in the electric meter cupboard which isn't really appropriate. We felt the tiny television in the corner was a little mean as TV's aren't that expensive and a slightly larger one would be better.

Slightly disappointed as advertised with a sea view. You have to stand in the road at the front of the property on your tip toes to see the sea. Furniture could do with being updated very uncomfortable sofas. Also it should be mentioned about the low ceilings anyone above 6ft 2 would have some trouble!

Just 2 moans - . The driveway was 'scary' a solid base rather than gravel would be easier!! The bedrooms were chilly, the night storage heaters really didn't seem to have much effect.

Cosy, comfortable and clean. We had the best family Christmas in years at George's. Especially appreciated the cream tea on arrival, the dog collar tags, the lack of mobile signal, the Christmas eve carol service, the well equipped kitchen and the closeness to the beach. It is referred to as our special little sanctuary and we can't wait to visit again.

Stunning looking from the outside but George's Cottage is in need of an update especially as it is rated four stars. A ceiling light dropped down and I had to fix it; the fridge dripped constantly and was an inadequate size for four people; the drainage holes in the sink were blocked with vile looking gunk and I had to clean it out to allow the water to drain; the cooker was on its way out and in need of a de-grease; the two couches were uncomfortable to relax on ( not a problem in summer but decidedly so in winter when sitting of an evening); the TV 'ghosted' constantly and was small and dated; the shower ran off the taps and was tiny and feeble; the mattress and pillow protectors were grimey and torn; the bottom of a drawer in the bedroom came out and the washing machine was old and the dryer cycle did not work at all. I brought the broken dryer to the housekeeper's attention by text whilst there but heard nothing back. Most of these problems were also being reported in the guestbook by other guests during the year and so nothing had been done by the owner to bring standards up. Cream tea on arrival; logs in the basket; Christmas tree; advent calendar and plenty of warmth from ancient looking storage heaters made it welcoming and homely.Well stocked with local maps and booklets of Bucks Mills history. I feel its rating would be best pitched at two maybe three to indicate the old and tired interior and lack of modern facilities (no internet in a four star place is unacceptable these days and as I am a housekeeper I do have an informed idea on this one). Good base for some stunning coastal walks and Clovelly near by is a picture book village with Peppercombe in the other direction. Dog friendly aspect is an advantage and the large garden is safe and well presented. Detached with a private driveway gave a lot of privacy and peace. The locals were busy mending the slip way so it was lovely to stroll down the valley a few meters and on to the pebble shoreline. A lovely restful break for me, my sons and two dogs but felt a little short-changed by the interior standards.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. We were most disappointed and surprised to read your comments regarding some aspects of your stay at George’s Cottage. The equipment provided within the cottage complies with the property inventory that is provided by Cottages 4 You and is in keeping with Visit Britain standards. Our property is inspected on an annual basis and we are proud to have retained the 4* grade awarded by the Cottages 4 You Regional Manager. We endeavour to maintain our high standards and often update or replace fixtures and fittings within the property and follow a regular maintenance schedule to keep the property looking at its best. Having being booked fully booked for the majority of 2014, we do sometimes find it difficult to complete necessary maintenance work however; we always ensure that this is carried out during the slightly quieter winter season. During January 2015, a new fridge, washing machine, tumble dryer, ceramic hob cooker and an oven will be fitted. A new thermostatic shower will also be fitted towards the end of January and both of the sofas will be replaced during February 2015. With reference to your comments in regards to the TV, the reception is the best we can get in this area. A new satellite dish was professionally fitted and tested in December 2014. This has not been an issue with any previous guests that have stayed in the cottage. We believe in offering our guests a home from home experience and we do leave personal touches and effects to ensure each guests stay is pleasant and comfortable. You can see from past customers that we have enjoyed high scores and so we were disappointed to receive the score that you gave. That said, it was nice to see that you scored the location of the cottage high.

The cottage is in a really nice location and looks very quaint from the outside. Unfortunately inside it is dark and gloomy, the property appears to have had a very cheap make over and is in need of some professional TLC. On arrival there were two light bulbs blown in the lounge, only one light worked in the cooker hood and a bulb blown in the bedroom. The lounge suite has a big burn hole in the back, there was food splashed on the kitchen wall, a couple of pots had food debris on them, and the oven could do with a good clean. The bottom has fallen out of the second draw in the bedroom and cannot be used, there was also a couple of cobwebs floating around on the ceiling. Lastly the shower is pretty useless. We booked this cottage for 7 nights but left after 5. The good news is the path down to the beach has re-opened.
