Such a lovely homely atmosphere. The whole family relaxed. We've been to posher places, but this took the biscuit for just chilling out together.

A lovely family weekend away. Beautiful scenery and wildlife. Plenty of room and comfortable for us all, (all twelve of us), including one toddler and also our dog. Well equipped house . We met the friendly owners, who were very busy with lambing, and we got to see the newly born lambs. The more energetic of the group walked to the local pub, (I am told it took them 20 minutes.) Also, a good touring place with many interesting places to visit nearby. We didn't get the best weather - it rained, on and off all weekend. Regardless, we had the best weekend enjoying the companying of our grown up children and their partners, it's an idea cottage for a family gatherings.

Brilliant place ideal for what we wanted. We came away with 3 other families all with children for New Year great big rooms ideal for the children to play and lovely surroundings. The cottage was very well equipped washing machine, iron, extra fridge freezer and lots of useful things like tea bags, sugar etc had been left out too. I found it to be very clean I had been worried reading reviews previously bit it was absolutely fine. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Floor boards are very creaky but it's an old barn and to be expected. We all loved it.

Lovely property, beautiful location, well equipped. There were 9 adults 2 children, a baby and three dogs and at no time did we feel cramped. The lounge was perfect, seating very comfortable. Skimpy curtains in the master bedroom would have been a problem in the summer but not at Xmas. Some of the furniture looked a bit tired but was still comfortable. Very convenient circular walk for the dogs.

Good location for large family event. Plenty of space for quoted numbers. Lots of kitchen equipment. Creek floor, but no matter. Attractive rural setting with plenty of parking.

We were one of two families who stayed at Foxcote (totalling 4 adults and 4 children) . The cottage was very spacious and we never felt crowded. There is plenty of living space either in the very large lounge or the seating areas in the hall and landing. The kitchen is also very large, and we enjoyed large family meals together. The design of the house upstairs enabled us to divide in two with each family occupying a different wing of the property. The views from the property to the rear are lovely. We very much appreciated the website reviews of previous visitors . The reviews, despite the counter claims of the owners, were largely accurate, so we knew what to expect. The major downside of the property was its cleanliness. It is a very large property on a farm and consequently needs a lot of hovering and dusting, at least more than was evident from our visit. Everyone has their own standards of cleanliness and it is easy to adapt on holiday, but the removal of cobwebs and dust seems an easy thing to put right, putting occupants immediately at their ease. Similarly, whilst some people like a 'home-from-home' feel; I think we prefer minimalism, drawing comfort from knowing that 'what you see is what you get'. Perhaps we're fussy. It didn't detract too much from our enjoyment. We enjoyed the rural location and very much enjoyed visiting various places of interest in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Our 3 and 5 year olds enjoyed a calm trip down the river by canoe from Symonds Yat East, for example. We visited the local pub once, but it was not good, so tended to eat and drink at the cottage using the Sainsbury's in Ross-on-Wye or the Waitrose/M&S Simply Food in Monmouth. The weather was good during our stay and the children made the most of the small contained garden to the rear of the cottage. Overall, it was a really good holiday. We have no regrets booking this cottage.

First the not so good (and there's only two). The floor boards creaked (quite loudly) and there were more than one or two cobwebs ! However, neither of these whatsoever hindered what turned out to be a very enjoyable holiday by all. There were eleven people in our party and at no time did we feel under each others feet which proved just how spacious the cottage was. Fabulous kitchen / dining area and we loved the hallway-come-lounge area which opened up onto both the back garden and front yard at the same time. Extremely well equipped and never were we in need of anything for the full 7 day duration. The cottage / farm is approx 5 mins or so from the local 'A road' but we felt as if we were miles from anywhere given the scenery and peacefulness of the location and, contrary to other reviews, was very easy to find - just needed a bit of pre-journey planning. Highly recommended as a tranquil base for the Wye Valley and Cotswolds.

We really liked the house and its position. We had masses of room, and there was plenty of kitchen equipment, although the oven could have been cleaner. We all enjoyed the comfortable reclining chairs and sofas, although we spent most of the time exploring the many things to do in this part of the world.

The towels and bedding were clean and fresh however the cottage felt like it had not been dusted for a while. There were cobwebs everywhere and due to the location its expected but not not lampshades, the bedroom dressing table was very dusty. The bath was also very dirty and full of cobwebs too. The floorboards were creaking and the stairs were very creaky and noisy. The bed in the bedroom downstairs was very soft and uncomfortable. My mum who is 80 slept there one night as she finds it difficult to climb stairs, but she had to sleep upstairs the rest of the time. Fortunately she can still manage the stairs but with some difficulty. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped but needs updating. That said the views from the cottage is amazing and the stay was not bad.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. I am sorry your expectations were not met. We were disappointed by your comments on the cleanliness, considering the property was professionally cleaned prior to your visit. The bathrooms were spotless. We always ask that customers contact us if they have any problems with the property in order that we can come and sort them out as soon as possible, so that our guests can then carry on enjoying their holiday with us. I am sorry that you found the downstairs bed uncomfortable, no one has mentioned this before and previous customers have said what a lovely comfortable room this is.
