Description

Fordson offers single-storey accommodation in a peaceful and secluded village setting with access to swimming pool and tennis courts.

"Ideal base for a family holiday...set between the Cheviots and the sea"

Tucked away in a peaceful and secluded village setting, these five comfortably furnished holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location, only 5 miles from the spectacular Bamburgh Castle and one of the longest sandy beaches in England, and within a few minutes’ drive of Seahouses, where regular boat trips depart for the Farne Islands. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through the beautiful countryside with its numerous castles, stately homes and NT properties. Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. The Mill House stands as a detached converted barn, with Waren View and The Granary Cottage forming an adjoining pair. This is an ideal choice for family holidays, with use of a very pleasant lawned area by a stream where visitors can enjoy barbecues. There is also shared use of the owners’ hard tennis court nearby.
Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Just 4 miles distant lies Budle Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an SSSI, with the ancient walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) and the Duchess of Northumberland’s ornamental gardens a short drive away. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.
Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Whilst on the island, a trip to The Museum of Island Life will reveal former living and working conditions there, and St Aidan’s Winery tempts visitors with its sweet concoction of local Lindisfarne Mead.
There are quiet country lanes for cycling and several excellent golf courses nearby, as well as a selection of shops in Belford (3 miles) and good inns and restaurants in which to enjoy a family meal locally – the nearest pub with restaurant being just 30 yards.
Guests may relax in our recently developed indoor swimming pool and sauna or work out in the gym, built close to the cottages. Shop/24-hr garage 1 mile.

Stayed with our 4 grown up children and four dogs. Had a great weeks holiday. Lovely pool. Take extra tennis balls as court boundary low and we lost a few!

Had a fabulous break the cottage was very welcoming with flowers, jams tea and coffee. All cleaning products available and plenty of cooking utensils etc. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable . Local pub was good and directly over the road. No corner shop but a mace at a local garage about a mile away. Location meant you needed the car for local beaches such as Bamburgh but was only about 15 mins away as was the Co-op in Seahouses. Pool was a decent size and again very clean. I would certainly stay there again.

This property was perfect for our family weekend away. It was very clean & comfortable & we enjoyed it thoroughly. We would definitely return! Fab place. We even got engaged on Bamburgh beach & celebrated very well back at the cottage with my family!

    Not in the Luxury category

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comment. Our property has been graded by the company representative to 3 star quality, and although we want everyone to enjoy their stay in the cottage, and have use of excellent facilities whilst there, we are aware that these are not ‘luxury category’ properties. We are looking to upgrade on an ongoing basis, and hope this will improve the experience for all our guests.

The best part of the complex was the swimming pool which was clean and warm, with a good shower. Unfortunately the cottage we stayed in was on the surface quite good but when you looked deeper it was tired and in need of an upgrade in decorating terms. It didn't seem to have been cleaned very well ,there was mould at the back of the cupboards, hair in the bedroom drawers, skirting boards were grubby and we had to clean the fridge before it could be used. We couldn't even use the freezer as it was totally iced up and couldn't get the drawers out to use it. For the money paid it was not good value. It had a lot of potential to be a really nice cottage .

On site pool fantastic and really made our holiday. Location very good as long as you do not mind driving. However, cottage was not as clean as we would have liked. There was a snail trail in the living room. The freezer (separate from fridge) was filthy and there were thick cobwebs under the sink that were very offputting when in the bath.

Had a wonderful week here. Cottage very nice and clean, with everything you need. Made use of the gym and pool, although pool was too cold. Being near the A1 was easy to get up and down the coast, so quite central and only 10 minutes from Bamburgh and 15 from Seahouses. Lots to do and loads to see, very scenic part of the Country.
