We had a great time at Finkle Barn with our two children (5 and 3). We were there during lambing and the owners were so welcoming and friendly. We visited the lambs every day to see the new arrivals and the children saw one being born; what a special memory for them. Plus they adored woody the dog! The barn is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We particularly enjoyed the view from the kitchen over the dale with our fresh farm eggs. A really special place and we will probably return.

I stayed at Finkle Barn between the 18th and 25th March 2016 and must begin by first apologising for the delay in posting this review. My german shepherd and I had an absolutely fabulous holiday here; both the location and barn are absolutely stunning and this is possibly the best equipped holiday accommodation I have ever come across. Jane is a wonderfully warm host, with the most friendly and welcoming family. If I needed anything they were there to help and would always stop and chat if I approached them, but at the same time showed complete respect for my privacy and did not intrude in any way. They were also more than happy to introduce me to their sheep and cows which was lovely, and put up with my random questions about farming! The barn itself has so much character and has clearly been lovingly converted and maintained, not to mention beautifully decorated and furnished . It is warm, cosy, comfortable and very peaceful and the sunken bath is a great feature too. The enclosed private garden area was ideal for my dog and was also a perfect place to just sit and take in the amazing views, but what I really enjoyed was being able to walk straight out of the barn and up on to the moors, or down into the pretty village of Lealholm. It was also only a short drive to Whitby for some sight-seeing or a bit of shopping. Whether you are a family looking for a countryside holiday, or travelling alone (except for maybe a dog!) and in search of a peaceful retreat away from it all, Finkle Barn really is the perfect place to base yourself and I cannot recommend it enough. So much so that I have booked to go back next year and I'm already looking forward to it!

Finkle Barn certainly has lots of character and is a lovely barn, however the kitchen needs some attention, water poured in through the stones above the kitchen window when it rained, the cooker is very tired door would not shut properly, the markings for the temperature and cooker rings had faded very difficult to see which one you wanted, plates bowls cups all could do with replacing. We had to wash most of the pans we used as were left very greasy. After the first night woke up itching thought maybe it was just me, but by the 4th day the whole family was itching, day 5 we decided to go home, and definately will not be returning.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; As the Owner and responsible person for Finkle Barn I feel I must respond to and challenge these most unfounded and unjust feedback ratings. It’s a strange thing that the last 10 review ratings averaged 9.6 out of 10 then we have one customer rating the Cottage with a 3. We have tried on numerous occasions to contact this customer to address these issues but with no success. At no point during their stay did they address these issues with us. Upon their arrival, the guest did voice their concerns regarding a serious rash a younger member of the family had, perhaps this explaining their so called itching. They were also most unfortunate with the weather, perhaps this also contributing to their misery. The only positive outcome is that they shall not be returning.

Very friendly owners, kept us informed prior to visit and very welcoming when we arrived. The barn was spotless and provided even more than what we expected. Would definitely stay there again in the future.
