Lots of little glitches that made it not quite hit the spot - no cloth for wiping down kitchen surfaces, the CO2 alarm had to be dismantled because it chirruped continuously, the plight of the two gun dogs in the kennels opposite, the damp smell in the ensuite, etc. Sorry, this was not one of our best experiences but was almost our most expensive.

My father and I spent a week at Elm Cottage whilst visiting relatives in the local area. It is one of three cottages on this site. Elm Cottage being the smallest. It was well equipped and very comfortable to stay at. The nearest shops are about 10 minutes away by car in Douglas which had a small supermarket, bakers and farm/coffee shop. On arrival we were left a small parcel containing bread, milk, butter, coffee, tea, sugar and biscuits. This was indeed a really nice touch. So would have no problem in recommending this property to anyone. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return again.

Elm cottage is well presented and clean and tidy, we would happily use it again. Only negative during this stay was noisy neighbour's on Sunday afternoon!

Not that far from main roads this property immediately surpassed expectations with the space of the rooms, obvious quality of the furnishings and curtains, equipment for self-catering and a thoughtful welcome pack of milk, butter, jams, bread and biscuits. Beautifully quiet, we had a very peaceful few days. Although the central heating meant that we didn't actually need to use the wood burner, we turned down the thermostat and had the pleasure of burning logs provided while watching a DVD on the TV/DVD player. A choice of sitting in the lounge/dining room to eat or the kitchen/diner enabled variation of casual or more formal eating. With four adults in the house there was loads of space and the ensuite and full bathroom gave good privacy.

Wonderful and relaxing break in a beautiful cottage. The welcome pack was a lovely thought as the cottage is fairly remote which is part of its appeal. Be sure to stock up before you get there. Lovely walks direct from the door.... glad we had an OS Map...very helpful and no time wasted looking for great walks. Super to return at the end of the day. Just one small gripe.....pillows a bit flat....normally take my own so its just perhaps a personal preferance. Overall wonderful stay...will return. Thankyou.

Beautiful cottage in lovely countryside, but at least a 5 mile journey to get to nearest amenities, local pub shut Mondays, Tuesdays and not open till 5pm on Wednesdays.

Very well equipped, high standard, spacious accommodation. The location is very remote, which in many ways is marvellous and the scenery is stunning, however it's not the place for you if you are used to popping out for a pint of milk or loaf. The nearest small shop is around 7 miles away and the local pub 2 miles which only opens for meals Thursday to Sunday. However, this is all stated in the property description so you should be aware of this before booking. The road leading up to the property is very quiet and makes for a lovely walk with the dog. The cooker and microwave is easy to use, although the TV is a little complicated but after practise does not become a problem. A great holiday cottage I would recommend and use again.

We loved the location and the cottage. Our daughter had just started at Glasgow University so we wanted to be handy but no too handy! We currently work and live in the Middle East and miss the UK countryside and greenery so the location of Elm Cottage was spectacular. It also easy to access Edinburgh. We will be back probably twice a year for our own peace and quiet and also somewhere for our daughter to chill out at.

The cottage was well equipped and in general comfortable. The location was quiet and remote which was what we wanted. The downside of that was that the Wi-Fi proved very unreliable. It was quite good at about 7:00 am but by 10:00 connectivity was lost. My husband could download his paper early and do the crossword later but could not access emails on a regular basis. The Scrib Tree in Douglas became a regular stop for coffee and Wi-Fi! It also meant that he could not finalise some research for an article he was writing and fretted about deadlines. If you want to avoid the cyber world, the location is ideal. Two other gripes. Firstly the bed in the master bedroom is incredibly low and we had to move to the other bedroom because of difficulty in getting up. It is certainly not disabled friendly. The other problem was the ramp at the back for step free access was coated in moss and lichen and was unsafe after rain so cases had to be carried down the steps. The equipment is good but there were no instructions for some items such as the washing machine. We had a power cut after a bulb blew and the information pack gave no guide as to where the fuse box was. We would love to come back but hope the internet connectivity has improved.
