Description

Attractive farm cottage with period features and views over fields and fells. Perfectly placed for touring the north of the Lakes.

Perfectly situated for touring

Drive along unfenced roads surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the northern lakes, until you arrive at these cosy character holiday cottages, on a working sheep and beef farm 2.5 miles from Caldbeck. Renovated from an old barn (Swaledale Cottage (ref W1780) is the middle cottage, Ellerbeck Cottage (ref W1821) is the end cottage), they are nicely decorated and furnished and feature exposed beams, with views over farmland to the fells beyond and walking right from the door. Children can explore the workings of a real farm, they can sit on a tractor and feed the lambs (accompanied by the owner). In John Peel country, Caldbeck is a pretty and peaceful village which has, in addition to cafes, craft and antique shops, a goldsmith, clogmaker and bowling green. Situated on the edge of the National Park, it is known locally as ’Back o’ Skiddaw’, a walk over which will bring you into the bustling market town of Keswick. Keswick with its lakes, Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water are a 15-minute drive and full of interesting things to see and do. Enjoy a ride up Derwent Water on the Keswick Launch, use the many walking and cycle paths to explore the breathtaking scenery, experience Keswick Spa, the theatre by the lake and the numerous museums suitable for all the family. The traditional market town of Cockermouth, Wordsworth’s birthplace, is 14 miles and the historic city of Carlisle and the Scottish border is 16 miles. This is an excellent base for exploring the northern Lake District. Shops 2.5 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with beams. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Open fire in living room included. NSH, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Cot. Electric cooker. Microwave. Dishwasher. Wi-fi. Shared enclosed lawned garden and furniture. Parking (2 cars).

Poorly equipped and old fashioned cottage, only the very bare minimum provided, remote location on a hill farm, shared yard and raised steep grass lawn with adjoining and the owner's cottage. Dog permitted but didn't feel welcome and really not suitable.

Response on behalf of the owner. Thank you for your comments, the cottage is well equipped for all needs, and although the cottage is idyllically positioned in the beautiful countryside the village is only 2 miles away. I am sorry that you didn’t feel that your pet wasn’t welcome but all pets are welcomed into our cottage.

The cottage was lovely, the owners were friendly and helpful, but did not intrude at all. Beds were comfy as were the chairs, etc. WiFi included was an unexpected bonus. The location was lovely and peaceful.

Comfortable cottage in a very peaceful location. A car is needed to get to local pubs and shops unless you enjoy a long walk. The double room is very tight on space but the twin room is fine. Bathroom is nicely fitted out and car parking is good. For anybody wanting to walk the Northern fells back of Skiddaw this is a good spot. Fridge is small and it could use a larger freezer.
