We spent a very comfortable time at Edgecoombe with our two children and small dog when we relocated to the district from abroad. We were greeted by the caretaker shortly after arrival who made sure that we were settled. The cottage has all the equipment necessary to make it a home away from home. The kitchen was already stocked with many of the basics; tea bags, fresh milk, bread, butter and a delicious box of biscuits. There was even a container full of logs by the fireplace which we made full use of. The garden is fully fenced so that dogs can roam freely. The house is set back from the road far enough so that any road noise is minimized. There are gorgeous views over open countryside to the rear which are great for spotting deer, rabbits and other wildlife. The two horses in the adjacent paddock provided constant amusement to the children. The town of Shaftesbury is only 5 minutes away by car with supermarket, petrol station and a great selection of pubs and takeaways. The local countryside is criss-crossed with footpaths which make for some excellent walks but you have to plan where to leave your car as the roads can be quite narrow in places. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time at Edgecoombe and would stay here again without hesitation.

Cottage although in lovely surroundings, apart from the busy A road, is in need of updating & modernisation to bring it up to the standard we have experienced in all the previous cottages we've stayed in. It was tatty & lacking in modern features, working shower for one thing & there was no welcome/information pack on arrival. Considering it's a dog friendly place, details of a local vets would be useful should u need it.... For example. It's a shame because it could be made into a lovely place with just a few simple updates & touches to bring it up to a high standard which we have always previously experienced.

We were disappointed with the cottage, especially the lounge. The suite was comfortable but the hearth rug was ragged, the lining of one of the curtains was in shreds, and the carpet was stained and covered in dog hairs. The television was small and there was no dvd player.

Third time staying here. It suits us as it is central to visiting friends & family when we come back to the area from our now home in the Highlands of Scotland. Location is great, its on a busy road, which you need to be careful of when exiting the driveway, but the bungalow is far enough away from the road that traffic noise is not an issue. The large secure garden is great for our dogs to run around and play in. Shaftesbury is a nice town with plenty of amenities and very central to a lot of other towns and tourist attractions. There are some nice takeaways which are worth a try. The Thai takeaway / restaurant is a must as the food is excellent. The chip shop near the Esso garage is also very good. If I had to chose something negative to say it would be the dilapidated wooden shed by the rear entrance to the bungalow. It was in a sorry state of repair when we first visited in 2014 and is in even a worse state of repair now. I'm surprised it hasn't been demolished and removed as it would enhance the overall appearance of the property. Overall this is a great place to stay and would recommend it to friends and family.
