This spacious 19th century house is a great base for families, complete with a cinema room and music room.

Designed by William Bell circa 1899, Dunvarlich House is a superb example of Arts and Crafts movement architecture and has a Historic Scotland listing category B. The house occupies a stunning position with breathtaking views overlooking the River Tay, with its 18th-century stone bridge, glens and mountains beyond. To the front of the house there are steps that lead down to a beautiful river walk. The house is entered by an Oriental-style vestibule with pale green stained glass, opening into a long, imposing hall and has been lovingly restored and elegantly furnished with antiques for discerning guests and families. It boasts original oak panelling in the drawing room, wood-burning stove, glass sun porch and a quaint, original cloakroom. A double staircase sweeps up either side of a fireplace with log burning stove, leading to five generous bedrooms and two large Victorian bathrooms. The caretakers are resident in a completely separate private rear wing.
Set on the edge of the pretty town of Aberfeldy it combines excellent local amenities including a delicatessen, butcher, galleries, bookshops, restaurants, antique shops and swimming-pool all within easy walking distance with the peace and tranquillity of country living. There is a golf course, putting green, bowling green, play park, tennis courts, river rafting and rock climbing all close by, as well as kayaking, sailing, sauna and gym. This truly is a unique holiday property in a perfect location. Shops 1/4 mile.

We had high expectations after looking at the wonderful pictures on the website, but even these were exceeded when we arrived. It was a cold day in March and the owners had thoughtfully set a roaring log fire in the lounge to greet us, and the house remained cosy and warm throughout the week. In every room great care had been taken to ensure that excellent quality products were provided to hand and the furnishings and decor were of such style and abundance to create a perfect comfortable, homely atmosphere. The immediate location by the river, with snowy peaks in the distance, was stunning and the house provides an ideal base for both town and country touring. Of the many holiday homes we have visited in the last twenty-five years, Dunvarlich is undoubtedly our favourite and we would love to return there one day.

We booked the house for a family get together and birthday celebration. We couldn't have chosen a better property. The house was amazing, comfortable, spacious and very welcoming. The welcome pack was fantastic and perfect for the occasion. Ann was charming and gave us a tour and showed us all the facilities there. Dunvarlich House is certainly the jewel in Aberfeldy's crown. The house was beautifully furnished, with toys and dressing up trunk for the children, a magnificent vinyl collection that took us and our children down memory lane, loads of books on varied subjects and board games. A lot of love and hard work has gone into making this house a perfect holiday destination. No-one wanted to leave. I cannot rate this house highly enough, just wonderful.

An extended family of 9 ranging from 2 years old to 89 could not have asked for a better holiday. The house had everything you could ask for and more. The owners of the property could not have been more helpful. As a central location to go fishing, running, cycling, walking, eating and drinking it would be hard to beat. This part of Perthshire is a delight to visit. Thank you for also arranging a week of sunshine!
