We enjoyed our week at Carness West. While it looks lovely in photos and is nice on the inside, it’s starting to be a little rough around the edges with dated bathrooms and broken tiles in the kitchen. We slept comfortably enough and loved the wood fire in the evenings. While we enjoyed our week away, we would book somewhere else next time.

We had a lovely stay at Carness West, it’s a well laid out property with the living room, kitchen upstairs. Even though it was a rainy week over new year we were very cosy and there is a very good selection of board games. Our little boy really enjoyed the tv area and there was a good selection of kids dvds. The caretaker lives close in a property next to the house, they were very unobtrusive, and it was nice to know they were close by if needed. Kitchen was well equipped with everything, dishwashers tablets, detergent, foil, cling film, kitchen roll was provided. Washer/ dryer downstairs, no washing detergent supplied so remember to take some if needed and only a toilet roll in each loo, so remember to bring extra. It’s a bit stark in the winter, but lovely to see snow capped mountains, bet it’s lovely when everything greens up. You can’t see loch Leven from the property, but you can get to it from a path that runs along the back of the property- just 5 minutes walk, but quite muddy when we stayed. There is also a nice walk from the property, on the way to kinlochleven , via a logging trail that takes you to a good viewpoint of Glencoe from above. Now for the best bit - the pinemartens that visit the decking for their supper. We left them food every night, but only managed to see them on the last two nights, around 8pm and 10-11pm - absolutely magical, they didn’t seem to mind the decking light on when they visited. They come up the staircase spindles. Lots of birds visit, so take some birdseed. We would love to visit again, the only downside is no WiFi, we do rely on it for planning our days out etc. If there is anyway you could include it, even at an additional charge it would be worth it.

After reading previous reviews about this property & the caretaker being so close & messy i was a bit worried about this holiday but it was lovely ..... we found it very private, clean & comfortable, the bed was the best holiday bed we've ever slept in! The upstairs had the wow factor when we saw it. The only negative about the cottage would be that a family can't sit & watch a film etc together as the TV is in a little 'snug' area with a sofa for two but it didn't bother us as we were on our own. We had a fantastic holiday at Carness West. Would definately recommend it to others.
