After reading previous reviews about this property & the caretaker being so close & messy i was a bit worried about this holiday but it was lovely ..... we found it very private, clean & comfortable, the bed was the best holiday bed we've ever slept in! The upstairs had the wow factor when we saw it. The only negative about the cottage would be that a family can't sit & watch a film etc together as the TV is in a little 'snug' area with a sofa for two but it didn't bother us as we were on our own. We had a fantastic holiday at Carness West. Would definately recommend it to others.

Had an amazing week. Cottage was very well kept and looked after. There was so much to see and do. Our daughter loved pre-paring the jam sandwiches for the pine martens each night, followed by sitting and waiting for them to come and snack. She also enjoyed keeping the bird feeders stocked and studying the birds from the book provided. Location is perfect with lovely views of the snow topped mountains. Our only complaint would be the noise created after flushing the toilets. Look forwards to planning our return

We stayed here early February and didn't want to leave! It's situated so perfectly that no matter what window you look out of you have fantastic views. The layout of the open plan top floor encourages socialising and enjoying each other's company rather than our usual "sit in front of the tv." We would go back in a heartbeat!

Hello Carness West, The area even at this time of year had lots of amazing views, splendid scenary from Glencoe to Mallaige we visited the white sands and the small golf club nearby all this was enhanced by perfect weather. The position of CW provided an ideal base for all the above and more but be aware some of the popular restauraunts mentioned in cw guest book are closed during the winter months, you have no way of knowing this until you arrive there. Overall the property CW needed a lot of attention paying to it, from cleaning to painting of patios, woodwork, steps, flagging, external cleaning of windows, the first floor decking and balconies were poor and unsightly the outside furniture was unfit to use only 1 outside light worked for this time of year not good. The photographs on the website were accurate but failed to show the neighbours untidy house several yards away. Plumbing what ever time you flushed the toilets would make the most awful noise not something that the change over person could fail to report for repair. Electrical items - the TV, radio and CD player were defective, antiquated and difficult to use in one way or another from poor TV reception, broken radio antennia and a remote with no batteries? This was a 5 star cottage when booking, it was down graded by it's owners to 4 before we arrived, considering this I thought wifi would have been part of the spec it is achievable as the neighbours have it but I have to say my fault I should have checked at the time of booking, it is fair to say it would have assisted with locating restaraunts that were open, and with booking or checking ferry times to the smaller islands etc. No welcome pack of logs, the near neighbour had to resolve this. Though the internal was reasonably decorated the cleanliness of the property was poor, our ensuit floor had not been mopped, the shower was dirty, the bathroom cabinate mirror still had the previous guest marks splashes on it , the shower cubicle had no soap tray so you just had to load all your shampoos and gells on the floor of the shower cubicle. we found the shower tray on the shelf in the utility when we were searching for bulbs. Sorry what ever the season I like a well presented clean & tidy property.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. All the bedrooms have been repainted down stairs, upstairs was done 2 years ago. The outside furniture is rustic, made from reclaimed timber, we are trying to be eco-friendly. A plumber has recently visited the property and hopefully has reduced the noise regarding the flushing of the toilets. We have checked the electrical items, all have been found to be working fine. Only one item needed new batteries in the remote control. We supply full instructions on how to operate the TV, it is in full working order and we are more than happy to help if guests have any issues with it.

The media tv system at the property is appalling. 1 tv in a small area off the main lounge ,away from the open fire. so families wishing to watch a film etc would not be able. Also the system is old and poor quality.

Fantastic Hogmanay week spent at Carness West, location is great off the beaten track a little bit but not to isolated. Facilities in the house are excellent with everything you could need. Not having wifi was a blessing in one way especially to get away from work but on the other hand would have been handy to research ferry times etc, however plenty of places around to get onto wifi. Would recommend Carness West to anyone.
