Description

The perfect family holiday home, quiet village setting, yet just a stone’s throw from York

Conveniently located in the picturesque village of Askham Bryham, just 5 miles West of York is Blacksmith’s Cottage. This traditional brick built cottage enjoys an enviable village location, yet just a stone’s throw from the magnificent cathedral city of York, offering guests the best of both worlds - the buzzing ambience of the historical city of York during the day, and the easy journey back to the peaceful ambience of Blalcksmith’s Cottage during the evening. The cottage itself is traditionally arranged over two floors and offers spacious accommodation for five guests in three bedrooms. The lounge/dining room has patio door leading onto the large, fully enclosed lawned garden with paved patio area, ideal for children and pets.

This cottage is a perfect base for visiting York and the Yorkshire area, especially if you are a dog owner! It is the most dog friendly house we have stayed in, and we have stayed in many over the years. The back garden is both beautiful and very secure for the dog, lots of birdlife, many of whom love to serenade you first thing in the morning. There are also visiting squirrels, great fun if you like photography although you will have to be quick. The house itself is comfortable, clean, warm and welcoming and close enough to all of the major roads in the area to get you anywhere you want to go. It was roomy enough for 5 adults to share on our visit, although the only drawback is the fact that the shower works straight from the hot water supply which usually means that 2 showers leave the tank drained, not ideal for 5 people! But that is a small gripe, overall I would recommend the cottage to anyone and would love to come back one day.

Clean, warm house with comfortable furniture and good mattresses. Great garden for the children and dog. Convenient position - close to York ring road so easy to get around. Be aware that toilet rolls are not provided!

As I pointed out in the book - it was a cottage, not a hotel room. We arrived and it was spotless. We kept it clean with the tools provided. Those who complained about the mess seamed to miss the point! If you want your room cleaned every day, go to a hotel. Our old dog LOVED the garden. The neighbour was super - full of tips.

Slightly dated interior but very clean and gorgeous setting. Very lovely cottage and wonderful locals. Good location for York and the coast. Will stay again without hesitation. Good at local pub outstanding

The Cottage was comfortable but does require updating with regards to the kitchen and its equipment along with the furnishing of the bedrooms (poor wardrobes). The shower outlet pipe was blocked, we phoned the caretaker to report this. There was no basic provision of loo paper or washing up liquid which is normally provided in other cottages. There was a 'Welcome Pack', nice bread but a pint of milk would have been more usual rather than the tiddly pots you get in a cafe!! The garden was really nice and the location was excellent for exploring the area.

Very dated accommodation. Although comfortable with a lovely garden, the house did not come up to expectations and felt in need of a good clean and overhaul.
