Family-friendly development

Set on the edge of a village, these cottages are ideal for exploring Cockermouth and the northern fells and lakes, and enjoy stunning scenery without experiencing the same hustle and bustle of the central Lakes. Finished to a very good standard, the cottages have everything you need for family getaways including a hot tub each, and have shared use of a superb, private indoor pool with sauna and spa within the courtyard (at cost). Each cottage has its own style and attributes but all share lovely outlooks over farmland towards the Solway Coast, 4 miles. Halls Bank Farm ref 13196 is a 17th-century sandstone farmhouse, tastefully decorated. Its original outhouses stand in a walled courtyard where a stream runs through to the paddock. Berwyn Bank ref 15825 is a wonderful sandstone barn attached to Halls Bank Farm and has been skilfully converted, retaining much of its character, with some flagged floors and beams. A large living room on the first floor gives super views towards the Scottish mountains and Solway Coast. It was originally a bank barn, therefore there is an external level access to both the ground and first floor. It also has a private enclosed garden. Previously a barn in a former 17th-century farmsteading, Beckside ref 17926 is a charming single-storey, detached stone cottage that has been totally restored with exposed beams and interesting features. It stands adjacent to the swimming pool. Spacious and well-presented, Stackgarth ref 29673 is a charming, detached holiday bungalow with thoughtful and welcoming touches. The market town of Cockermouth is 6 miles, Keswick 14 miles and Buttermere 12 miles. Bassenthwaite Lake, 6 miles. Private fishing on the River Ellen for salmon and trout, 1 mile (free of charge). Golf and horse riding nearby. Beach 10 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub ½ mile. The properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 28+1 guests.

Ground floor: Dining room/kitchen. 3 bedrooms: 1 double, 2 twin, each with en-suite shower room with toilet. First floor: Living room. 3 bedrooms: 1 double, 4 steps up to en-suite bathroom with spa bath and toilet (shared by adjoining door). 3 steps down to 1 double bedroom. 1 double (5ft) bedroom with en-suite shower room with toilet.

Having stayed at Halls Bank farm next door we wanted to stay at Berwyn bank and it was equally as fantastic! Bathrooms could do with a bit of modernisation but facilities etc were overall excellent.

Brilliant for a group. Lots of room. Plenty of places to see and things to do nearby. Hot tub was good and big but we used the smaller one next door with permission. Nothing too much for the owners. Swimming pool times were a bit early but that was just our opinion. We didn't use it in the afternoons due to being out and about so later may have been better. House was definitely warm enough without the fire, some days too hot but again just our preference. Plenty of loo roll which normally isn't provided by many other group houses! So many pots and plates which was brilliant! Fridge freezer huge too! Awesome property!!

Berwyn Bank provided a comfortable base for our three generations, 11 people from 8 to 76. It was well located for exploring the area and the children especially enjoyed the hot tub and use of the swimming pool. The only negative point was the poor drainage to the wet-room showers, but we found the owner very helpful.

What a great place to stay and unwind or use it as a base for hiking.Myself and a few friends did a bit of hiking, sightseeing & went to watch bfd bulls at whitehaven. After a day hiking we were greatful for a soak in the hottub, and in the morning we had use of the swimming pool & sauna. We had everything provided that we needed. The bedrooms were clean, comfortable and we had plenty of room in the kitchen & living room.A mention to sarah who was on hand to help out & suggest places to eat, visit & which taxi places to use-thank you-We would definately be coming back here next time to do it all again.

Lovely, homely place for our 3 generation 3 family holiday. A great location for many local attractions. The hot tub and indoor swimming were a real bonus and the owners did everything to make our stay very enjoyable. Thank you.
