Description

Dating back 200 years, this grand detached country house, has open fire, multi-fuel burners and chandeliers. Symonds Yat is easily reached.

This grand detached country house is set within 2 acres of attractive gardens, beautifully presented with formal lawn, walled garden, arboretum and pretty rosebeds. The holiday property dates back 200 years and is full of character, with an open fire, multi-fuel burners, beams and chandeliers, and has been tastefully decorated by its current owners, who live next to the grounds.
This lavish retreat is an ideal location from which to explore the surrounding rolling countryside and the many villages with black-and-white timbered houses and inns. The nearby market town of Ross-on-Wye has many historic buildings and public cliff-top gardens offering excellent views of the River Wye, and Hereford is well worth a visit, with its cathedral (which contains the famous Mappa Mundi and Chained Library), museums, art galleries and bustling mid-week market.
Also enjoy our national heritage in Monmouth, a Tudor border town associated with Henry V. Or visit Hay-on-Wye, famous for its books and festivals. Close by is Kilpeck Church, perhaps the best preserved Norman church in the country. Symonds Yat offers everything from gentle rambles to canoeing within its magnificent natural setting, or join the network of pathways comprising the Wye Valley walk. Shop 2 miles, pub serving excellent food, 600 yards.

This 'cottage' is actually a lovely, very comfortable country house that is furnished like a real home rather than a holiday home. We are a group of 10 friends who enjoy walking and this was an ideal base for walks of all levels, from easy walks straight from the house or an easy drive to more challenging walks,it's a great base for just exploring this beautiful area. Our other interest is food and the kitchen was really well equipped, an aga and also the large range cooker, it was a great place to congregate but there was also plenty of space to escape for a quiet moment, with the two lounge areas, the main dining room and the conservatory. As a group we have stayed in many great properties but this one was voted the best and straws are being drawn for the master bed next time, which is a first as we have not revisited a property yet! After all the rain this winter we were lucky with mostly sunny days but as it was February we didn't really get the benefit of the lovely garden but the views were fabulous.

Simply fantastic. Our group of 14 had plenty of room for everyone not to be ontop of each other. Highly recommend this property.

Lovely house which was a treat to stay in. It feels like a home which has positives -everything is there-but also the responsibility for making sure we looked after it. If you are looking for a party house please dont choose this one. But if you want a relaxing weekend in beautiful surroundings it's perfect. The only improvement would be to make some of the beds firmer as they were far too soft for most of us.

Our party really enjoyed the house. It was very comfortable and furnished with flair. My three grandchildren enjoyed themselves. It was lovely having a real fire and the lounge was a great size for all the party.

What a wonderful house, the photos don't convey how big this place is, 11 of us went and the main lounge and the dinning table had plenty of room for us all. It also felt very homely and had everything you need to feed 11 people including 2 ovens.

I booked this house for my parents 50th Aniversary weekend, for 15 of us, ranging from 5 months to 93 years.... The house more than exceeded our expectations, much larger than the photos indicated. With 10 adults and 5 children we had plenty of room. The garden is wonderful with a lovely view. As the weather was great over the 4 days , lots of time was spent outside, the kids loved it. Having downstairs bedrooms and bathroom was great for grandad, he didn't have to climb stairs. The only downside was the amount of nick-naks about the house, which we had to move as the kids wouldn't leave alone, we would have hated it if they had broken anything. Overall this is a very homely house with plenty of space, well equipped, great garden and I am sure we would love to visit again in the future. Thank you for a memorable stay

Very comfortable house with an interesting eclectic mix of pictures. Slightly old fashioned furnishings but a well equipped kitchen. Bedrooms and bathrooms as expected. Excellent sun room with a delightful view of the interesting and well stocked garden and countryside beyond. Difficult exit on to the busy Hereford road. Some trimming back of the foliage near the gate would improve the visibility.
